Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
: Implement accommodations and supports, as outlined in IEPs, within a resource setting to facilitate students' successful completion of assignments and assessments. Provide instructional support to students under the supervision of a certified teacher to implement IEP goals, accommodate students' learning needs, and/or remediate students' academic deficiencies. Implement behavioral plans designed by the IEP team for special education students to assist in meeting students' needs and providing a consistent environment. Assist other department personnel, as needed, to support them in the completion of their work activities. Participate in department and classroom team meetings to support student learning and promote a positive, collaborative work environment. As needed, monitor and assist students in various settings, including the classroom, library, commons, physical education facilities, community outings, vocational sites, school buses, public transportation systems, etc. to ensure their safety and welfare. Perform record keeping (i.e., documentation of students' academic and/or behavioral performance) and clerical functions (e.g., correcting papers, copying, creating bulletin boards, etc.), as assigned, to support the teacher in providing necessary records or materials. Provide verbal and/or written feedback on observations to assist teachers in the evaluation of students' progress. Supervise student transportation by riding the school bus or driving a District van. Other duties as assigned by the teacher or administrator.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
:
  • Must hold a high school diploma.
  • Hold a Wisconsin DPI Special Education Program Aide License or be certifiable.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license. Employment is contingent upon the SASD insurance carrier approving insurability due to past and future driving records. May be required to transport students.
  • Must be willing to support the North High School mission.
  • Must be willing to make decisions in the best interest of students and staff and demonstrate the ability to adapt, collaborate, and flourish in an ever-changing educational environment.
  • Must possess knowledge and experience working with students with various learning styles and disabilities, including EBD, OHI, Autism, and SLD.
  • Ability to consistently display a positive outlook and demeanor toward the job.
  • Must be flexible and adaptable to changing job needs/situations to facilitate student learning and promote a positive, collaborative work environment.
  • Ability to work well as a classroom team member and work cooperatively with others within a department setting.
  • Ability to maintain a professional relationship with co-workers; consistently keep people informed and share ideas.
  • Ability and willingness to make decisions in the best interest of staff and students.
  • Must possess knowledge or experience with computer programs and assistive technology equipment.
  • Ability to assist the teacher in providing instructional support to individuals and groups of students, and supervising classroom activities.
  • Ability to provide supplemental academic and behavioral supports and accommodations to students within the mainstream classroom environment.
  • Ability to self-monitor and prioritize the daily/weekly duties of the position with little supervision.
  • Must possess outstanding communication skills with colleagues, parents, and students.
  • Ability to do copying and other clerical tasks.
  • Ability to supervise and assist students in a variety of school and community settings.
  • Must be Non-Violent Crisis Prevention (CPI) trained or willing to be trained.
