The Volunteer Program Manager oversees the volunteer program in Mesa Public Schools, particularly with adults aged 50+ who mentor and tutor young students to improve reading skills. This position conducts site visits to observe tutors and students, maintains and replenishes tutoring inventory, reviews session logs for accuracy, monitors tutoring sessions along with communicating with school liaison regarding any student-related concerns. This position is responsible for data collection and entry with attendance logs, timesheets, student session data and volunteer hours. This position supports session coordination through scheduling and serving as a substitute tutor when needed. Communication and relationship management is a key role in serving as a liaison between tutors, school staff and program teams. Organize and host community partner and volunteer recruitment efforts. Required training in the tutoring model to provide ongoing support to tutors to ensure fidelity to the tutoring model.Key Responsibilities:
Oversees the volunteer program in Mesa Public Schools, particularly with adults aged 50+ who mentor and tutor young students to improve reading skills. Maintains and regularly replenishes inventory of tutoring materials and other pertinent information such as student files, sign-in sheets, attendance logs, etc. Conducts school (site) visits to observe tutors and students in action. Recruits and assists in building the volunteer force for Mesa Public Schools including assisting in completion of mandatory background checks, maintaining records, and volunteer paperwork. Understands and implements a structured tutoring session model. Conducts formal tutor observations with new tutors on a regular basis and returning tutors less frequently. Reviews session logs for accuracy and completeness. Actively monitors tutoring sessions. Keeps tutors and school staff informed of tutor absences, school closures, canceled tutoring days, and other pertinent information. Communicates with the school liaison regarding any student-related concerns. Collects attendance logs and timesheets monthly. Reviews and approves timesheets. Makes corrections appropriately and when necessary. Enters volunteer hours and student session data monthly. Supports scheduling of tutoring sessions. Serves as a substitute tutor when needed. Serves as a liaison between tutors, school staff, and program team. Assists with volunteer and community partner recruitment. Attends all required training courses. Provides ongoing support to tutors to ensure fidelity to the tutoring model. Performs other duties as assignedRequired Qualifications:
Associates degree in communications or related field. Minimum of three years of experience with literacy, reading or library experience.Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in education, communications, or a related field Teaching Experience Reading Endorsement Bilingual in English and Spanish (written and spoken)Skills & Competencies:

Primary worksite at various MPS school locations, with occasional travel to school campuses and community partner locations Occasional lifting and transport of materials. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
