Part-Time Reading Tutor / Dyslexia Specialist (Structured Literacy / Orton-Gillingham) Teach Them To Thrive - Menlo Park, CA (Serving San Mateo to Mountain View) $65-$90/hour | Part-time | 1099

Teach Them To Thrive is a small but growing tutoring and consulting company based in Menlo Park. We specialize in personalized, one-on-one reading intervention for elementary students—especially those with diverse learning needs including dyslexia , ADHD , and autism . Our tutors use evidence-based methods rooted in the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy . About the
Role:
We're hiring a part-time reading tutor who is warm, reliable, and highly trained in structured literacy instruction , such as Orton-Gillingham , Wilson , or Lindamood-Bell methods. You'll work with students in grades PreK-5 to build skills in phonemic awareness, phonics, spelling, reading fluency, reading comprehension, and written expression. This is a flexible, contract role ideal for highly qualified classroom teachers, reading specialists, or special education teachers .
Scheduling:
Flexible hours, set directly with families Most sessions take place Monday-Friday between 3-6pm, though weekend availability is a plus Increased availability and hours during the summer Anticipate 5-10 hours/week to start
What You'll Do:
Provide 1:1 reading tutoring using explicit, systematic instructional methods Build strong, trusting relationships with students and families Address reading difficulties through explicit instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, decoding, encoding, morphology, and written expression Track student progress and communicate regularly with families Travel to students' homes or meet at local public libraries Manage your own schedule and calendar them in our system Stay connected with the Teach Them To Thrive team for ongoing support
Qualifications:
At least 3 years of teaching or tutoring experience , ideally with struggling readers Valid elementary teaching credential (any U.S. state) Structured literacy training required (e.g., Orton-Gillingham , Wilson , Barton , or equivalent) Experience supporting students with dyslexia , ADHD , or other learning differences Must have reliable transportation and ability to drive to client locations Warm, professional, and confident in working independently
Compensation:
$65-$90 per hour , based on experience and training
