The tutor is directly accountable to the Associate Director of Tutoring & Academic Intervention Services for the following duties and responsibilities. The individual filling this position is expected to play a positive role in helping the College change as necessary to effectively carry out its mission. This position may have duties that are either on campus or virtual or both and will require consistent communication and cooperation with other tutors, faculty, and staff to promote student success. Spanish, French, American Sign LanguagePRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Writing tutors/lab assistants will be responsible for: Working with students both one-on-one and in small groups, either remotely or in-person. Researching and creating resources related to English, writing, and reading skills. Guiding students through all facets of the writing process: pre-writing, drafting, and proofreading. Educating students on varied written communication styles, such as e-mails, resumes, and academic-level writing skills. Developing and presenting writing workshops that address common mistakes seen among students. Maintaining familiarity with MLA, APA, and Chicago Style formatting. Math tutors/lab assistants will be responsible for: Working with students both one-on-one and in small groups, either online or in-person. Independently guiding students through the process of solving math problems successfully. Navigating and maintaining familiarity with subject matter and test-preparation materials, such as worksheets, test-prep books, textbooks, and formula sheets. Developing and Presenting math workshops and resources that address PERT test preparation and common mistakes made by students. All tutors/lab assistants will be responsible for: Assisting students with subject area content and study strategies. Assisting and coaching students with further developing and/or refining advanced academic skills. Helping to support student testing and accommodation needs upon request. Playing a positive role in student engagement and retention initiatives. Reporting problems or concerns as they arise to the Coordinator on site or the Associate Director. Maintaining a courteous and professional attitude at all times. Completing timely and accurate records of all tutoring sessions. Utilizing technology for tutoring sessions and student outreach. Helping with light housekeeping duties, such as wiping down whiteboards and tables, etc. Completing annual mandatory compliance training and all other required training related to the job of tutoring and providing academic assistance. Attending pre-semester and all other meetings and training throughout each academic year. Assisting with other assigned duties as requested. Demonstrating accountability on the job by turning in timesheets, reports, and other materials on time. Collaborating with achievement mentors and peers to build engaging student-staff relationships in the Zoghby Learning Commons.Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Demonstrated excellence in subject area. Candidate must have earned "B" or higher in course(s) related to tutoring responsibilities. Recommendation from faculty or chair of departments of relevant courses. Excellent time management skills. Preferred prior tutoring and/or teaching experience with high school and college students. Willingness to travel between campuses as needed.Additional Information:
