JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, this position is responsible for day-to-day maintenance and supervision of the local Tutoring Center and its staff. Maintains the effective delivery of academic services via Tutoring Center to Indian River students at the campus.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitor the day-to-day activities of the Tutoring Center and maintain a high-quality, welcoming learning environment Train, supervise, and support tutors to ensure they are making effective use of learning resources while they are working with students, staff, and faculty Provide tutoring assistance to students in at least one high need area (English, mathematics, science, technology, etc.) and develop learning resources as needed Work closely with campus faculty and Tutoring Center staff to identify students who are at risk of dropping or not attending their classes and engage these students in supportive activities to help them succeed Coordinate Tutoring Center outreach at the Chastain Campus, which includes tabling, classroom visits, and other promotional activities Orient College and local high school students to the Tutoring Center Assist with organization of on-site technology trainings and data collection for students and faculty Identify common technical knowledge gaps and notify the department manager of potential training needs for students and tutors Completes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
The qualifications and skill requirements for this position include: Bachelor's degree in one of the Tutoring Center's main functional areas (English, reading, Science, or Math). Minimum of two (2) years documented teaching experience and/or teaching experience in an individual instruction setting; Proven experience with educational technologies; Proven knowledge of instructional techniques; Ability to deal effectively and diplomatically with diverse populations including students, faculty, staff, supervisors, and administrators; Ability to supervise more than a dozen part-time employees; Strong written and oral communications skills; Strong leadership skills and the ability to pay close attention to detail; Possession of a strong work along with the ability to exercise good judgment; Ability to positively represent the Tutoring Center.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as light work involving lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be very little, a job is in this category when it requires a good deal of walking or standing, or when it involves sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls. To be considered capable of performing a full or wide range of light work, you must have the ability to do substantially all of these activities. If someone can do light work, we determine that he or she can also do sedentary work, unless there are additional limiting factors such as loss of fine dexterity or inability to sit for long periods of time.
