Columbus State University¿s Professional Development Lab School at Dimon Magnet Academy is seeking committed, enthusiastic Columbus State University students, who are eligible for the federally funded work study program, to help support and elevate CSU¿s Professional Development Lab School and serve as tutors in the areas of literacy and mathematics and supportive mentors for Dimon¿s students. Work-study students will work directly with elementary-aged students to support academic achievement through interactive, engaging, and student-centered learning experiences. Work with the Director and Assistant Director to help sustain the successful implementation of CSU's Professional Development Lab School (PDLS) at Dimon Magnet Academy; Support implementation of key initiatives aligned to the PDLS's priorities (e.g., increase student engagement and achievement; increase family and community engagement); Build positive relationships with students that encourage academic confidence and engagement; Participate in training(s) and ongoing feedback sessions; Provide small-group and/or one-on-one tutoring in literacy and/or mathematics (dependent on individual students¿ needs); Facilitate hands-on, interactive activities that reinforce classroom learning; Track student progress and collaborate with the PDLS staff to align support strategies; Support a safe and structured learning environment; Assist with preparation of learning materials and enrichment resources; Serve as a supportive mentor, modeling a positive and encouraging disposition for students¿ interests, assets, learning, and growth. Must be a current CSU student eligible for Federal Work-Study; Excellent communication, patience, and organizational skills; Strong academic background or coursework in literacy, mathematics, and/or related fields; Experience working with children preferred (e.g., tutoring, mentoring, camp counseling, etc.); Ability to lead fun and meaningful learning activities; Must be a currently enrolled as a student at Columbus State University; Completion of at least one semester of coursework at CSU with a minimum 2.5 GPA; Demonstrated proficiency in literacy and/or mathematics skills; Experience working with children in educational, tutoring, or mentoring settings preferred but not required; Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills; Commitment to fostering a positive and engaging learning environment. $15/hourly. Federal Work-Study (FWS) positions are grouped into three general levels based on job duties and required skills:Entry-Level:
Basic tasks with little to no prior experience required. Duties may include clerical work, customer service, or general office support.Intermediate:
Positions that require some prior experience or specific skills. Duties may include tutoring, lab assistance, or more independent administrative work.Advanced:
Roles that require specialized skills, training, or significant responsibility. Duties may include research assistance, technical support, or leadership roles. Procedure forDetermining Pay Rate:
Federal Work-Study (FWS) pay rates are based on the type of job, responsibilities, and skills required. Pay is set within the university's student wage guidelines and follows federal and state minimum wage laws. Rates may vary by position and are determined in coordination with Financial Aid, based on available funding and the student's FWS award. Evaluation Procedures and Schedules Work-study students will be evaluated using a continuous improvement model aligned to PDLS priorities: Student engagement & achievement. Quality of tutoring/mentoring support. Professionalism & reliability. Contribution to PDLS initiatives and team collaboration. Evaluation will include multiple measures: Direct observation. Student progress data (when applicable). Supervisor feedback. Self-reflection.Evaluation Schedule:
Onboarding & Initial Training (Weeks 1¿2): Review expectations and PDLS priorities; conduct baseline check-in (content readiness and comfort working with students); set individual goals. Ongoing Feedback (Weekly/Bi-Weekly): Provide informal check-ins and real-time coaching focused on instructional delivery, student engagement, and relationship-building. Mid-Semester Evaluation (Weeks 7¿8): Conduct formal evaluation including observation, review of student progress (if applicable), and feedback on strengths and growth areas; adjust goals as needed. End-of-Semester Evaluation (Weeks 14¿15): Complete comprehensive evaluation of performance, contributions, and professional growth, including supervisor feedback and student reflection; inform continued placement and potential leadership opportunities. •Evaluation process will be re-enacted each semester so that FWS's receive ongoing opportunities to self-reflect and clear feedback on an ongoing basis.Similar remote jobs
