Position Summary:
The REACH Tutor supports student academic achievement by providing individualized and small-group instructional assistance to high school students in core subject areas. This position works collaboratively with teachers, school leadership, and support staff to reinforce classroom instruction, improve student performance, and promote student confidence and engagement Essential Functions include, but are not limited to, the following: Provides tutoring and instruction to students within a small classroom environment and/or 1 on 1 situation. Posts and markets tutoring availability along with a consistent schedule as arranged by your supervisor. Creates a tracking system which indicates student appointment times, progress, and areas of improvement. Communicate with teachers regarding student conduct and performance status. Contact students with missed appointments and follow up with them on their progress. Monitors student performance within the areas of class work, attendance and discipline as needed. Encourage positive student behavior and maintain a supportive learning environment. Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities as required. Maintain confidentiality of student and school information in accordance with school policies and applicable laws. Provides support to teachers as needed. Perform other duties as assigned by administration.
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:
Ability to engage, motivate, support and encourage at-risk students coming from a variety of educational, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and varying academic levels. Basic proficiency in educational technology and computer applications. Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and reliability.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor's degree preferred. Experience working with high school students in an educational, tutoring, mentoring, or youth development setting preferred. Experience supporting students in math, science, English/language arts, or social studies. Previous tutoring or classroom support experience. Bilingual skills are a plus.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods and move throughout the building to observe classrooms and activities. Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. occasionally (books, materials, equipment). Work may include occasional evening or weekend hours for events, meetings, or emergencies.
