English Learner (EL) TutorQUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of 48 core college credits or passing score of 457 on Praxis. Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred but not mandatory. Be familiar with the special needs of English Learners (EL). Ability to work and communicate with staff, students, and the public. Additional training and/or experience in working with children in a school setting, either in the classroom or on a one-to-one basis would be desirable. Knowledge and skill in the teaching and use of math and reading including the ability to pronounce vowels, consonants, phrases, and words in a phonetically correct manner. Willingness to learn and use English as a Second Language (ESL) methods and materials to teach basic language and other skills to EL students. Computer knowledge and experience with word processing, e-mail, spreadsheets, etc. Previous experience preferred, but not mandatory. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.REPORTS TO

To support the delivery of School District 91's written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement. To provide the necessary leadership, educational activities, and social skills for each assigned child so that she/he will become more proficient in English in order to function adequately in society.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Administers WIDA Screener for EL's as well as ACCESS for EL's Test. Works with the classroom teacher and building administrator to determine the instructional needs of each student. Provides services according to the needs of each individual EL student. Maintains required student files as requested and required by the needs of federal, state and local guidelines. Monitors student performance by maintaining a tracking sheet on all EL students. Observes and records EL student progress in academic and language areas. Modifies instructional materials according to directions (i.e. lesson plans). Facilitates students' active participation in cooperative groups. Attends inservice classes, building meetings, monthly program meetings and district meetings. Assists the Federal Programs Office in gathering a variety of data that is needed for reporting to state and/or federal officials. Notifies the Federal Programs Office of new students who may qualify for the program. Assists the schools with concerns about any EL student with health, attendance, social behavior, academic problems, etc. Is part of the school network to contact homes of EL students. Operates equipment (i.e. tape recorders, VCR's, overhead projectors and copy machines). Assists students on arrival and departure from tutoring area. Designs tutoring schedule for working with qualified EL students Participates in the school as a regular part of the staff and accepts supervision and other duties as requested. Provides translation and interpretation services when requested for EL students or parents. Explains and re-teaches concepts to students in other language (i.e. Spanish). Interprets at Parent Teacher Conferences for EL students. Construct learning material and prepares classroom setting. Order materials and supplies through the Building Administrator. Supervises students during recess, before school, and after school. Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality. Has regular and predictable attendance.OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs all other duties as required.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a part-time position scheduled for up to 19 hours per week during the school year. Wages will be in accordance with the Classified Salary Schedule as Grade 5 - $16.39 or $17.19 per hour depending on experience. Benefits will be in accordance with approved Board policy. This is an "at will" position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The "employment at will" policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and expressly approved by the Board of Trustees of District 91.EVALUATION
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Building Administrator in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on the evaluation of classified personnel. This position has been given an overall physical classification of light duty.
