Center for Academic Success & Advising CASA Assistant Professor & Director of Tutoring (INTERNAL) Description of Position The Center for Academic Success & Advising (CASA) serves the NNU community by collaborating with students, faculty, and staff to implement best educational practices. CASA leads by modeling a growth mindset, engaging students in metacognitive processes, reinforcing resilience, and participating in scholarship to strengthen NNU's values of truth, transformation, community, and service. CASA promotes a student-centric approach to increasing academic success and responsible student engagement through a relational advising lens. The CASA Assistant Professor/Director of Tutoring is a member of the CASA team under the supervision of the center's director and within Academic Services. This person is integral in helping all NNU students advance in their academic plan of study as they pursue their educational goals. The position is a 10-month, tenure-track faculty position. Requirements Scope of responsibilities:
1/2-time Director of Tutoring. Collaborates with the Writing Center Director in managing subject-area tutoring, including the training and supervision of student tutors. 1/2-time Math Instruction. The courses are to be determined based on the applicant's education and experience. 10-Month Appointment. Tracks math placement and student registration for all incoming students. Serves on elected/appointed University committees, councils, and commissions
Qualifications:
A master's degree is required, preferably in the area of math, math education, or another related field Experience implementing successful math intervention strategies Experience with face-to-face and online teaching, tutoring, and/or advising is preferred Experience working with or being able to personally identify with first-generation undergraduate students and/or underrepresented students is preferred Demonstrated ability to relate meaningfully with students and have a strong commitment to student success A self-starter with the ability to lead innovative and diverse initiatives benefiting students and the university Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to mitigate conflict and manage stressful situations Ability to work well within a team and promote collaboration and cooperation The University requires that all candidates have a Christian perspective (preferably in the Wesleyan traditions), and must be comfortable with, and in agreement with the mission and lifestyle values of NNU. Compensation The salary will be determined based on the educational background and experience of the candidate.
