Sauk Valley Community College (SVCC), a comprehensive community college located in a picturesque rural setting, invites applications from innovative and experienced individuals to provide support and promote all students with their academic success as the Coordinator of the Tutoring and Writing Center in our Learning Commons Library. FUNCTION OF THE JOB
The Learning Commons Coordinator is responsible for developing, organizing, coordinating, and overseeing the daily operations and services of the Learning Commons Tutoring and Writing Center. The Coordinator ensures alignment of services with the College's mission and promotes a culture of academic success for all students. Management & Operations Develop, implement, and oversee all procedures and operational protocols for the Learning Commons Tutoring and Writing Center. Establish annual goals for all assigned Tutoring and Writing Center services, evaluate operations, and prepare comprehensive statistical and annual reports of accomplishments and concerns. Develop annual operating budgets in coordination with the supervisor, and manage the procurement of necessary supplies and equipment for the center. Administer the center's appointment and scheduling systems for tutoring and writing services. Evaluate and order appropriate instructional materials for all tutoring and writing support areas. Serve on the Learning Commons Leadership Team and other College committees/councils as required. Plan and execute special academic events, workshops, or activities sponsored by the Learning Commons. Collaboration & Outreach Collaborate with faculty and staff across all departments to identify student academic support needs and develop strategies to effectively deliver needed services. Promote all Learning Commons services through classroom visits, facility tours, presentations, and assorted publications and digital channels. Collaborate with other Learning Commons coordinators to ensure alignment and overall effectiveness of all campus academic support services. Assume all other reasonable professional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
Required:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Education, Composition, English, Rhetoric, or a closely related discipline. Five years of work experience in an academic support environment, learning assistance center, or adult education setting. Strong computer and technical skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of alternative teaching/learning options and tutoring pedagogy. Appreciation of teamwork and evidence of the ability to communicate effectively with faculty, students, and administrators.
Preferred:
Master's degree in a relevant field. Teaching experience at middle school level or above. Appropriate administrative experience supervising staff and managing a budget.
Essential Functions:
Must understand and support the mission of the community college. Must possess strong communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills. Must be able to work effectively in a team-oriented environment. Must possess excellent computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office products and ability to quickly learn scheduling/administration software. Must be able to work some evenings to support center operations.
Supervision Exercised :
Administrative and functional supervision is exercised over all instructional assistants and student tutors.
