Adlai E. Stevenson High School is seeking a student-centered STEM Tutor to join the Student Learning Programs (SLP) team. The tutor will provide academic support to students in the Information & Learning Center (ILC) and East Learning Center (ELC), helping students build confidence, strengthen academic skills, and develop greater independence as learners. The STEM Tutor works with students individually and in small groups to support learning in mathematics, science, engineering, and related coursework. This position emphasizes both academic growth and relationship-building, as tutors serve as trusted adults who encourage persistence, self-efficacy, and effective learning habits. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable in foundational STEM content, skilled at explaining complex concepts in accessible ways, and committed to creating a welcoming and supportive learning environment for all students. ISBE (Illinois State Board of Education) licensure is required. Paraprofessional (PARA) or substitute (SUB) license required; ISBE PEL
with endorsements in Mathematics, Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred Bachelor's Degree with a STEM focus (or significant STEM Coursework) preferred Experience working with high school students in tutoring, teaching, mentoring, or academic support settings. Knowledge of foundational high school mathematics, including Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2, or knowledge of introductory high school science coursework, including Biology and Chemistry. Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students. Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. Commitment to supporting diverse learners through a student-centered approach. Experience supporting students with varying academic, motivational, and executive functioning needs. Familiarity with MTSS frameworks, intervention practices, and strategies that promote student agency and self-efficacy. Responsibilities:
Provide individual and small-group tutoring in mathematics, science, engineering, and other related STEM courses. Support students in developing conceptual understanding rather than simply completing assignments. Help students strengthen study skills, organization, problem-solving strategies, and independent learning habits. Utilize questioning, scaffolding, and learner-centered instructional practices to promote student thinking and ownership. Monitor and document student progress and participation. Communicate regularly with classroom teachers regarding student progress, challenges, and support needs. Collaborate with Student Learning Programs staff, counselors, teachers, and administrators to support student success. Contribute to a welcoming, inclusive, and academically focused learning environment within the ILC and ELC. Assist students in accessing school resources and support systems as appropriate. Participate in departmental meetings, team meetings, professional learning opportunities, and other assigned duties. Salary:
SSSA Agreement (all support staff positions at Stevenson High School shall be paid no less than $18.00/hour). The final pay offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and years of experience within the job, the type of years and experience within the industry, education, etc. Benefits:
