Standard Internship $ Paid $18.00/hr Full Time Part Time Description Student interns will learn to manage classroom procedures and student behavior and to help organize the classrooms and resources in ways that promote both safety and learning. Our internship program uses the co-teaching model. This means that you will work closely with your mentor teacher in all aspects of the teaching experience. You'll be actively engaged with students from the first day of your student intern experience, and your students will benefit from two teachers' energy, attention, instruction and feedback. You'll also help plan curriculum with your cooperating teacher. This means that you will have a mentor to model everything that goes into the planning process. You will learn how to work with school personnel like teacher aides, First Steps early intervention providers, and even parent volunteers, all with guidance and feedback from your cooperating teacher. The intern will learn about providing direct support to children and communication with families. The program operates within the confines of state, local and agency policies and budget.

Responsibilities The intern will:

Contribute to maintaining a rich, child-focused, developmentally appropriate environment for the children in his/her care. Under the direction of the Curriculum Specialists, assist with planning and implementing a rich, child-focused, developmentally appropriate curriculum for the children in his or her care. Share weekly plans. Assist with ensuring that we meet state guidelines and that reports are submitted. Gather data about each child and keep records that lead to completion of summary reports. The data will be gathered for these reports through anecdotal records, developmental checklists, and portfolios. Observe, understand and help to implement positive behavior management. Assist in the general operations of the classroom, including but not limited to: serving meals and snacks, cleaning the classroom when the children have left. Participate in early childhood staff meetings, and all staff meetings. Support, cooperate with, and communicate with other administration and school officials. Maintain a positive attitude, and contribute to the general well-being of staff and students. Work and communicate with families in a positive manner, and on a regular basis. Communicate with parents by phone once per month, and send home newsletters. Work assigned hours, be punctual, and be regular in attendance Behave, speak, and dress in a professional manner. Regularly check email to remain abreast of agency current events and policies. Qualifications A minimum of an Associate's degree and/or CDA in Early Childhood/Elementary Education preferred, or experience in early childhood/child development programs with a documented plan to gain CDA certification or degree Complete a minimum of 20 hours of continuing education or 3 related college credits on an annual basis. Knowledge and ability to facilitate growth of the program. Respect and love for children. Disposition to work positively with others. Requirements per licensing regulations Learning Objectives Develop an understanding of child development principles and how to apply developmentally appropriate practices in an early childhood classroom setting. Gain experience in curriculum planning, lesson implementation, and adapting activities to meet the diverse needs of young children. Learn state licensing standards, reporting requirements, and best practices for maintaining classroom compliance and documentation. Strengthen observation and assessment skills by gathering and analyzing developmental data to support individualized learning goals. Build effective classroom management and positive behavior support techniques that foster a supportive learning environment. Increase knowledge of effective family engagement strategies, including professional communication with parents and caregivers. Develop teamwork and collaboration skills through participation in meetings, shared classroom responsibilities, and communication with school personnel. Strengthen professional workplace habits, including time management, organization, communication, accountability, and adaptability. Gain hands-on experience in supporting daily classroom operations and understanding the responsibilities of early childhood educators. Improve confidence and competency in working with diverse children, families, and educational professionals within an early learning environment.
