Position Overview:
A Charlotte-area family is seeking a highly skilled, relationship-driven tutor to support their 5th grade student in both math and English Language Arts. This is a deeply personalized role for an educator who thrives in one-on-one settings and understands how to meet a student both academically and emotionally. The student has not found success in traditional supplemental programs or group-based learning environments and requires a significantly more individualized, paced, and responsive approach. This role is ideal for a tutor who excels at slowing instruction down, identifying foundational gaps, and rebuilding skills with intention, clarity, and care.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct informal and/or formal assessments to determine present levels in math and ELA Identify foundational skill gaps and design a highly customized learning plan Deliver structured, scaffolded instruction with a strong emphasis on conceptual understanding Break down complex skills into manageable steps and reteach material using multiple strategies Provide consistent guided practice and repetition to ensure mastery Monitor student progress over time and adjust instruction as needed Maintain clear, professional communication with parents, including regular updates on progress, goals, and observations Support the development of non-academic skills such as perseverance, confidence, self-advocacy, and a growth mindset
Ideal Candidate:
Experienced elementary educator or interventionist with a strong background in math and literacy development Skilled in diagnosing learning gaps and rebuilding foundational skills from the ground up Comfortable significantly slowing the pace of instruction while maintaining student engagement and success Exceptionally warm, patient, and emotionally attuned Able to recognize signs of overwhelm or discouragement and adjust approach in real time Experienced in working with students who have low academic confidence or are hesitant to ask for help Strong communicator who can clearly explain assessment methods, progress monitoring, and goal setting to engaged parents Confident taking on an educational leadership role within the home

A predictable, structured, and supportive learning environment Instruction that is visual, hands-on, and broken into small, manageable steps An educator who prioritizes relationship-building and emotional safety A consistent presence who can help rebuild both skills and confidence over time
Schedule & Commitment:
