Position Summary Position Description:

The UNM-Valencia Upward Bound Program provides academic-based after school and summer programs for qualified students who attend high school in Valencia County at Los Lunas High School, Valencia High School, or Belen High School. This federally funded program is in its tenth year of instruction and tutoring for first generation (college) and income eligible students who intend to graduate from college with a Bachelor's Degree. The Upward Bound After School Tutors assist scheduling tutoring sessions, in the development of academic and enrichment activities for the high school students who commit themselves to positive self-development, leadership, and learning. Assistance ranges from working with students studying to understand basic concepts in key subject areas, to those who are advanced in skills and are able to excel with their comprehension and use of the most challenging concepts in person or virtual. This is a grant funded position that ends 08/30/2020 and will be renewed annually based on availability of federal funding. The position is expected to expire on 09/30/2021. Responsible for all Upward Bound equipment used for tutoring. Maintains a clean and comfortable study environment. The current opening requires a work schedule of 4 to 8 hours per week including traveling to one of the three High School sites and availability on Mondays, Wednesday and/or Thursdays from 2pm

• 4:30pm Located about 30 miles south of Albuquerque in rural Valencia county, the University of Mexico-Valencia Campus is a two-year branch campus of the University of Mexico which functions as a community college in the region and is designated a Hispanic Serving Institution.

With an emphasis on teaching excellence, Valencia Campus offers academic transfer programs, technical vocational programs, Adult Basic Education, and Dual Credit High School/College courses to Valencia and Socorro Counties. Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills, flexibility and an ability to conduct professional and considerate interactions are required. Ability to collect and analyze tutoring data for reporting purposes. Prior experience working with high school students in an academic setting.
