Function of Position:

Reporting to the Director of Learning Support Systems, Paraprofessional Tutors are staff who work with students to help them to develop effective learning strategies and to become self-regulated learners. These tutors help students with discipline-specific content.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities :

Primary Functions:

Foster the development of independent, intentional learners Help students understand and use effective learning strategies Provide tutor assistance in subject areas in one-on-one and group settings Psychology Develop and nurture rapport with students, peers, and faculty Attend training activities to comply with certification requirements before and/or during semesters Collaborate with faculty on providing workshops and in setting tutoring expectations Adhere to tutoring center protocol and tutoring expectations as outlined in the Tutor Handbook Promote critical thinking and problem solving Help to identify and fill learning gaps with discipline specific content Promote student understanding of Psychology as a science

Secondary Functions:

Visit classrooms, as needed, to introduce students to tutoring Assisting with other learning assistance projects as assigned

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

Associates or working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology Experience working with diverse college populations Technology savvy

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Psychology Two years of tutoring experience

Additional Information:

Pay Rate:

Associates Degree - $15.50/hr.
