Job Description

The Learning Lounge is NOT a traditional learning/tutoring center. We are a calm supportive, connection-focused learning environment, dedicated to helping children and teens grow in confidence, academics and emotional regulation. We specialize in working with children who have learning differences and believe in teaching the whole child, not just academics.
Our Core Beliefs:
Behavior is communication Regulation comes before instruction Connection drives learning There is no such thing as a "difficult child", only a dysregulated nervous system or need that is not being met. If you are looking for a fast-paced, performance-driven, compliance-based environment, this is not it.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a grounded, compassionate, and knowledgeable educator with experience in education and working with neurodivergent children. This role is ideal for someone who understands that learning is deeply connected to the nervous system and values connection, regulation, and individualized support. This is not a traditional tutoring role . We are looking for someone who sees beyond behavior, understands how the brain learns, and can create a calm, safe space where students can thrive. While experience in education is required, we are not hiring based on experience alone. We place a strong emphasis on soft skills and personal qualities, including: Ability to remain calm, grounded, and regulated Emotional awareness and patience Strong relational and communication skills Flexibility and responsiveness to each child's needs
The Following Are Required:
Experience in education, speech/language (teaching, tutoring, homeschooling or related field) Experience working with neurodivergent children (ADHD, dyslexia, autism, etc.) General understanding of how the brain learns, especially in children with learning differences Familiarity with or openness to learning about nervous system regulation Strong communication and interpersonal skills Must pass a state and national background check Must be willing to attend continuing education, training and/or certification programs, as needed.
Our Ideal Candidate:
Able to simultaneously maintain a calm, grounded presence and a structured routine with kind, yet firm boundaries. Able to co-regulate and support students through challenges, both academically and emotionally. Sees the whole child , not just behaviors or academic performance Flexible and intuitive in their approach to learning Passionate about helping children build confidence and grow their skills Willing to perform a state and national background check Willing to participate in continuing education programs and/or certification training, as needed. Candidates who rely primarily on rigid instruction, control-based behavior management, or one-size-fits-all teaching approaches will not be the right fit for this environment.
Responsibilities:
Provide individual literacy or math sessions tailored to each student (training provided) Provide literacy or math sessions in small group setting. (5 students max) Support students academically, while also prioritizing emotional safety and regulation Communicate with parents, provide progress updates, collect and record data for progress monitoring. Maintain a positive, respectful, and structured learning environment
Pay:
$20.00 - $30.00 per hour Expected hours: 10.0 - 25.0 per week
Benefits:
Flexible schedule Application Question(s): How do you support a child who is overwhelmed, frustrated, or shuts down during learning? • Thank you for your interest in The Learning Lounge! We appreciate you taking the time to apply. Because this role is very relationship-centered, we ask all applicants to complete a short pre-screen before moving forward. Please reply with brief responses to the following: What experience do you have working with neurodivergent children? Please include any educational, professional or personal experience, along with certifications, training and/or degrees, if applicable.
Education:
High school or equivalent (Preferred)
