Position Summary:
Assists in providing specially designed programs for EL students under the direction of the EL Coordinator and Classroom Teacher that will help to develop language, communication, and other skills necessary for success in the regular classroom setting and in life situations.
Minimum Qualifications/Job Requirements:
Education:
High School Diploma or higher
Specialized Knowledge:
Bilingual in Spanish or other languages
Other:
Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others, demonstrate self-discipline and initiative, follow state and district guidelines.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides instruction to each EL student appropriate to his/her level as determined by formal assessment Facilitates frequent and effective home-school communication by coordinating and translating: conferences, written communication, parent events, and other meetings/events Creates a schedule with the EL Coordinator that best meets the needs of the language students Connects EL families with school events. Meets with EL coordinator at regular intervals. Provides a nurturing, supportive, and positive learning environment with high expectations that encourage student responsibility, enhance motivation, clearly communicate classroom routines, and incorporate challenging instructional strategies. Advocates for the program needs that are required to meet the learning needs of English learners Uses skills, experience and training in second language acquisition and academic language development to assist and support regular classroom teachers' efforts to provide appropriate accommodations for EL students in the mainstream classroom Maintains program documentation requirements including log of services for all students assigned, testing results, language development progress, teacher comments, parent contact, etc. Assists with playground supervision, lunch duty, and bus duty-not to exceed the duties assigned to other school staff When tutors/Instructors are split between multiple school sites, duties are to be proportional to the amount of the school day spent on site. May have to travel to multiple sites Performs other duties as assigned
