Job Description

Elementary/Early Childhood Paraprofessional Job Description Purpose:
The Horace Mann Title I Paraprofessional will assist the assigned teacher(s) in creating a positive learning environment to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of the students. To accomplish these tasks, the Horace Mann Title I Paraprofessional shall work closely with the staff and administration of the district. Responsible to : Assigned Teaching Staff and Principal, and Superintendent Payment rate: Salary and benefits as established by the
Board of Education Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent and preferred sixty hours of college credit or successful completion of the approved assessment for NCLB. Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the central office (after employment offer is made). Knowledge of the operation of various office machines. Must pass spelling and math tests. Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance. No Child Left Behind certification.
Essential Functions:
Ability to assist in facilitating the personal, social, and intellectual development of students. Ability to assist in establishing a positive learning environment, and respond to the individual educational needs of students. Ability to ensure all activities conforms to district guidelines. Ability to communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and community. Ability to react to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner, meeting deadlines as assigned. Ability to operate all classroom equipment appropriately as required. Ability to work to implement the vision and mission of the district.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
Requires stooping, bending, kneeling, turning, and reaching. Requires prolonged sitting or standing. Must occasionally work in noisy and crowded environments, with numerous interruptions.
General Responsibilities:
Ability to prepare for classroom activities under the supervision of a licensed teacher. Ability to work with small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher. Ability to assist individual children in need of special attention. Ability to perform clerical duties as required. Ability to guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up by the teacher. Ability to set up audiovisual equipment. Ability to assist teacher with non-instructional classroom duties, such as snack, toilet, and clothing routines. Ability to assist with reading and storytelling. Ability to assist in drill work. Ability to observe and follow all school district policies at all times. Ability to respond to information requests in a cooperative, courteous, and timely manner. Ability to keep student and personnel information and records confidential. Ability to implement and follow all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan. Ability to perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as directed by the principal or teacher. Ability to Supervise student conduct in the classroom or in such areas as the study hall, library, cafeteria or playground. Develop effective relationships with students and with other staff members. Ability to perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as directed by the superintendent.
Term of Employment :
Support contract, non-exempt from wage and hour

Performance effectiveness will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of Board of Education Policy.
