Job Description

Summary Description:
The Writing Tutor will tutor students in grammar, writing, and APA format and provide feedback on written work. This individual will also coordinate with teaching faculty to remain up to date with curriculum and coordinate support for students of concern. This is a part-year (34 weeks/year to align with the Traditional academic calendar), 20 hours/week position reporting to the Director of Academic Services.
Role & Responsibilities:
Conduct one-on-one tutoring sessions with students to assist with written assignments Offer constructive feedback on written assignments in a variety of disciplines Lead workshops on APA formatting, the writing process, research, and other relevant topics as needed Serve as an embedded tutor in select writing and research courses Visit classrooms periodically to offer support and encourage engagement with the tutoring program Conduct group study sessions and writing labs as needed Assess students' current understanding of the subject matter and tailor sessions to address their specific needs Utilize a variety of teaching materials and resources to enhance the individual learning experience Utilize the Pharos retention software to submit and respond to student concerns Apply evidence-based practices to improve student outcomes
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in English, Applied Linguistics, TESOL, Writing, or a related field Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Patience and adaptability in teaching and explaining complex concepts Familiarity with APA format and conventions
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous tutoring or teaching experience Experience working with diverse populations. Bilingual in English and Spanish Physical Demands -
Work Environment:
The position is located in a typical office environment. Professional/business casual attire is required.
