Job Description

East Stroudsburg University is hiring a Professional STEM Tutor! Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU's proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to internships, careers and social activities. Just minutes from campus are the country's largest water parks, scenic Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area, Appalachian Trail, and other opportunities for recreational fun. As the Professional STEM Tutor, you will need to think creatively and be comfortable working with a diverse student population. You will be an active member of the Kemp Library in the University Wide Tutoring team and will work closely with the Director of Academic Success to deliver effective STEM course tutoring for ESU students. You will thrive in this role if you like combining your STEM background and instructing experience all while developing various strategies to expand students' knowledge on their STEM courses. To be successful in this role, you must be able to engage students, possess extensive knowledge in your STEM expertise, and have excellent organization skills to improve student learning. The normal hours for this role are based on the need for STEM courses that require tutoring. You may have to flex your schedule from time to time based on the needs of the business to be a Professional STEM Tutor. When our team shows up for work, they are energized and motivated to succeed - all while being the most crucial piece to keeping the ESU Enrollment Services operations humming. What Will I Do At ESU? (AKA Essential Duties) Provide academic instruction to individuals or small groups outside of the classroom. Help students to improve their grades, understand difficult concepts, receive extra help to catch up with classroom lessons, and improve grades to benefit instruction. Review classroom or curricula topics and assignments. Assist students with homework, projects, test preparation, papers, research, and other academic tasks. Work with students to help them understand key concepts, especially those learned in the classroom. Teach skills to improve academic performance, including study strategies, note-taking skills, and approaches to answering test questions. Communicate all student progress with the department. What We're Looking For (AKA Qualifications) Bachelor's degree in the appropriate STEM discipline required. Ability to organize notes and tutoring topics by the learner's preference to ensure maximum knowledge is gained during the sessions. Previous tutoring or teaching experience preferred. Possess the skill to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff preferred. Demonstrate the skill to promote a positive work environment preferred. Exhibit the ability to work with minimal supervision and to initiate work on projects independently preferred. Demonstrate knowledge in the appropriate disciplines preferred. Able to read, write, and comprehend English; able to follow verbal instructions. Experience with Word, Excel, Teams required.
