Job Description

Job Title:
Reading Tutor / Learning Coach Position Summary The Reading Tutor (also referred to as Learning Coach) provides direct academic support to students in a structured reading-center environment. Tutors work one-on-one or in small groups to help students build foundational reading skills, confidence, and academic independence using established curriculum tools and instructional methods. This role is ideal for high-school juniors/seniors, college students, education majors, and individuals interested in working with children , literacy, or youth development. Key ResponsibilitiesInstruction & Student Support Deliver small-group or one-on-one tutoring aligned with program curriculum Guide students through reading activities, phonics exercises, and comprehension tasks Encourage confidence, persistence, and a growth mindset Monitor student progress and celebrate milestones Support individualized learning plans under site leadership Classroom & Learning Environment Maintain a positive, focused, and supportive learning atmosphere Follow behavior-management expectations and restorative practices Ensure student safety and supervision at all times Prepare instructional materials and keep workspaces organized Communication & Teamwork Collaborate with Site Leads and fellow tutors Communicate observations about student progress or challenges Participate in training sessions and coaching opportunities Follow schedules and site procedures consistently Professional Conduct Represent the center professionally with students and families Maintain confidentiality and student privacy Adhere to organizational policies and child-safety protocols Qualifications High-school junior/senior, college student, or recent graduate encouraged to apply Interest in education, literacy, child development, or tutoring Strong communication skills and patience when working with children Reliable, punctual, and professional Ability to follow curriculum and coaching guidance Preferred Qualifications Coursework in Education, Psychology, English, or Child Development Prior tutoring, babysitting, camp counseling, classroom aide, or youth-program experience Experience working with elementary or middle-school students Bilingual or multilingual abilities (community-dependent) Skills & Competencies Clear communication Positive student engagement Organization and reliability Adaptability and coachability Team collaboration Time management Work Environment & Schedule On-site at a reading-center location Afternoon, evening, and some weekend shifts available Ideal for students seeking part-time or after-school work Standing, walking, and light lifting may be required Compensation & Other Competitive hourly pay based on experience Flexible scheduling for students Professional development and leadership-path opportunities Strong letters of recommendation from our board based on performance.
Pay:
