Job Description

Job Summary The MCAP Tutor for High School ELA provides targeted academic support to students preparing for the Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) in English Language Arts. The tutor focuses on strengthening reading comprehension, writing skills, language usage, and test-taking strategies aligned with MCAP standards.
  • Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver small-group or one-on-one tutoring sessions focused on
MCAP ELA
standards
  • Assess students' strengths and areas for improvement using diagnostic tools and practice tests
  • Develop and implement individualized learning plans based on student needs
  • Teach critical reading skills, including analysis of literary and informational texts
  • Support students in writing clear, structured responses (constructed responses, essays, etc.)
  • Reinforce grammar, vocabulary, and language conventions
  • Provide MCAP-specific test-taking strategies and practice opportunities
  • Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and attendance
  • Communicate regularly with program coordinators, teachers, and/or parents .
  • Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a related field (required)
  • Teaching certification (preferred but not required)
  • Experience teaching or tutoring high school ELA
  • Familiarity with MCAP or similar standardized assessments
  • Strong knowledge of reading comprehension, writing instruction, and grammar
  • Ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learners
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Preferred Skills
  • Experience with data-driven instruction
  • Ability to engage and motivate high school students
  • Familiarity with online tutoring platforms (if virtual)
  • Classroom management or small-group facilitation skills
