Position Summary The Tutor/Mentor (Level II) provides academic tutoring and/or writing and reading assistance, as qualified, to undergraduate UIW students individually and in groups and offers guidance to Peer Tutors as needed. Position performs other center-related duties when not tutoring (see job duties). Tutors are assigned to specific disciplines based on qualifications. This position reports to the Director, Learning Support Services.
Essential Functions Tutoring:
Provides academic tutoring and/or writing and reading assistance to undergraduate UIW students individually and in groups. Workshops and Embedded Tutoring. Offers workshops, exam reviews, and embedded tutoring.
Mentoring:
Offers guidance and mentoring to Peer Tutors as needed.
Other Duties:
When not working directly with students, assists with other center-related tasks, such as outreach, record-keeping and resource creation. Communicates regularly with supervisor. Qualifications Knowledge Skills and Abilities Strong communication skills, to include an ability to explain concepts; Demonstrate a professional demeanor and strong interpersonal skills, to include patience and empathy toward students who are learning; Ability to work independently and as part of a team; Basic knowledge of standard office equipment and computer software; Ability to adhere to office standards, to include maintaining confidentiality and engaging in responsible, ethical conduct; Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures; Employees shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA. Required Education Current UIW graduate student. Required Work Experience At least 6 months experience explaining concepts to students. Preferred Qualifications Formal tutoring or teaching experience preferred. Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations None. Work Hours 15-20 hours per week Physical Demands None.
