Job Description

Job Description Salt Lake Community College's Student Engagement, Experience, and Achievement (SEEA) Office is seeking students interested in supporting Student Success Initiatives as Math tutors. The math tutor needs to be knowledgeable in Math 0900-Math 1210 or Math 0900-Math 1050. This is a great opportunity to make a meaningful impact while gaining valuable leadership and professional experience. Our goal is to also provide a productive, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment for events, programming, and workshops that will guide students toward study practices, success strategies, and aides that help them to excel both inside and outside of college. The responsibilities are being able to answer general student questions, attend meetings, trainings, and other duties as assigned. Essential Responsibilities and Duties
  • Work with the Student Success Initiatives Team to provide math tutoring for Math 0900-Math 1210.
  • Ability to create marketing materials using Canva, etc.
  • Understand the obstacles prospective first-generation college students experience. Communicate effectively (in writing and verbally) with a wide range of individuals.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills, cultural competencies, and sensibilities.
  • Present in front of large audiences as well as provide one-on-one consultations.
  • Work collaboratively with others in the SEEA team, as well as our campus and community partners.
  • Organize, process, and disseminate large amounts of information accurately.
  • Work well under pressure and function independently with integrity under minimal supervision.
  • Work a flexible schedule which may include mornings, evenings, and weekends.
  • Utilize basic computer operating systems (e.g., Microsoft Office Word, Canva, Publisher, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and SEEA's student information system (i.e., Student Access).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people, abilities, and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups in an academic, socioeconomic, and background of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
  • Work on undergraduate research, as applicable. Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA
  • Registered for 9 credits for Fall and Spring semesters
  • Maintain 15-20 hours per week work schedule -
FAFSA Fedreal Work Study Eligible Preferred Qualifications:
Be able to use Microsoft Suite. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities a) Motivate and encourage new SLCC students. b) Create a welcoming environment for new and continuing participants. c) Articulate the purpose of SEEA to new and potential students. d) Feel comfortable using Degree Works and class registration platforms. e) Be punctual and dependable. f) Participate in ongoing professional development sessions. g) Participate in ongoing SEEA workshops, events, and activities. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, abilities, cultures, and ethnic backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, background of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
