Job Description

The Part-Time Tutor provides targeted academic support to students in reading and/or mathematics through small-group instruction. Working in collaboration with classroom teachers and school staff, the tutor develops and delivers supplemental lessons designed to reinforce key academic skills and support student progress. Tutoring may occur during the school day or in extended learning opportunities outside normal school hours. The position supports student achievement by using effective instructional strategies, monitoring student progress, and communicating with school stakeholders.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's degree or equivalent post-secondary education Must meet and maintain certification and training requirements established by the Virginia Department of Education , including: Title IX Training Mandated Reporting Training Suicide Prevention Training Demonstrated ability to support instruction in reading and/or mathematics Ability to work effectively with students, staff, and families
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Instruction & Academic Support Provide small-group instruction in reading and/or mathematics using approved instructional strategies. Develop lesson plans and instructional materials tailored to the needs of assigned students. Deliver engaging learning experiences that maximize instructional time and support student understanding. Encourage creative and innovative approaches to learning that support student engagement and skill development. Student Progress Monitoring Evaluate and monitor the academic progress of students receiving tutoring services. Adjust instructional approaches as needed to support individual learning needs. Communication & Collaboration Communicate regularly with teachers and school staff regarding student progress. Provide feedback and updates to the teacher of record and other stakeholders as appropriate. Work collaboratively with school staff to support student academic success.

Knowledge of effective instructional practices and tutoring strategies Ability to build positive relationships with students Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents Ability to support diverse learners in a small-group instructional setting
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a classroom or instructional setting within a school environment. Duties may occur during school hours and after the regular school day. Work involves exposure to normal day-to-day conditions encountered in a school setting.
