The TRIO Upward Bound Math & Science (UBMS) Program at Virginia Union University seeks a College Readiness Instructor to provide academic support and college preparatory instruction to participating scholars. The instructor will provide tutoring support throughout the academic year and lead college-readiness instruction during the UBMS Summer Academy. UBMS prepares high school scholars for college success by focusing on academic achievement, postsecondary access, and persistence. Responsibilities Provide tutoring support in core academic areas (reading, writing, study skills, and/or test preparation). Lead College Readiness instruction during the UBMS Summer Academy. Develop and facilitate engaging lessons focused on college preparation (study skills, time management, goal setting, financial literacy, and college knowledge). Assist scholars with academic skill development and postsecondary planning. Support students with SAT/ACT preparation and college application readiness. Maintain tutoring attendance records and report scholar progress to the UBMS Director. Encourage student motivation, self-efficacy, and college-going identity. Participate in program activities and meetings when requested. Education Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, English, Social Sciences, or related field. Experience teaching, tutoring, or mentoring high school students. Ability to create engaging, student-centered learning experiences. Experience supporting students with SAT/ACT preparation or college applications. Experience working with first-generation and/or underserved student populations. Must be able to lift 10 pounds.
