Job Description

Tutors Impacting Public Schools (TIPS) seeks a collaborative visionary leader to build on our success as a K-12 educational partner connecting caring, culturally responsive tutors with students, classrooms, and schools. If you're ready to lead with vision and humility to build on a foundation shaped by people who've done the work firsthand, we'd love to connect. A trusted nonprofit organization addressing both equity and learning support needs for Seattle's education community, TIPS promotes student and school success with a proven school-embedded tutoring model. Our flexible tutor placements optimize partnerships to help schools where they need it most. With more than 90 tutors in nearly 40 schools annually, we impact thousands of students and hundreds of teachers to improve educational outcomes. This role is special
  • Our next Executive Director will lead creatively for growth and sustainability to extend our impact across the Puget Sound.
You will support our deeply knowledgeable, highly effective program team and well-trained tutor corps to implement contracts with year over year retention, while partnering with a committed board to develop and execute a shared vision and impact plan, fundraising strategy, and relationships to take our work to the next level. We encourage candidates from a variety of backgrounds and experiences with the skills to: Connect and collaborate with board and district leadership, community partners, and tutor stakeholders to envision and achieve TIPS' future at a pivotal moment of opportunity Build on strong community partnerships within Puget Sound educational and governmental networks to strategize for regional expansion Communicate clearly to manage work styles and expectations in a largely virtual operation, while also establishing in-person relationships across stakeholder communities Develop an external fundraising plan from the ground up Lead detailed administrative work with significant contracting, payroll, and scheduling needs using supporting technology suites and tools Build and support inclusive and effective staff and board teams Organizational Overview Our mission: Improve academic achievement and student learning by connecting caring, culturally responsive tutors with teachers and schools to meet their educational goals.
Our vision:
In every classroom, every student thrives, feels valued, connects with a caring community, and finds joy in learning. TIPS' model values collaboration with schools and community partners to provide students with access to learning support that reflects them, enable flexibility and impact-driven agency for teachers, and support the development of future educators. Unlike other programs that rely on a set curriculum and approach, TIPS tailors the role of each tutor to meet the specific and evolving needs of classrooms. This allows us to provide targeted support that addresses each school's unique challenges. Desire for learning support continues to grow in our region, and TIPS is in a strong position to serve a range of communities. Our Executive Director will be a strategic leader and organizational steward, advancing this mission by envisioning opportunities, building and leveraging partnerships, and creating diversified funding and staffing plans for TIPS' promising future. Team & Culture History TIPS began in 2012 as the brainchild of SPU Education Professor, Greg Fritzberg. He sought to offer practical educational service experience to undergraduate students, while also providing targeted instructional supports to classroom teachers. Over the past 14 years, TIPS has grown into a stable 501c3 organization, with recognized programs, partnerships, and a tutor corps of skilled, hands-on service providers from college students to graduates, pre-service educators, retirees, and more. Culture/Team TIPS is a collaborative environment, drawing from the experiential insights of tutors, school partners, and staff to continuously refine and improve our services. Our operational staff works as a hybrid, largely virtual team, with a Program Director, Operations Associate, and Recruitment Team of hiring specialists. Theory of Change TIPS believes that improving educational outcomes within diverse classrooms requires strategic investment in three types of support: We train culturally competent, developmentally aware, diverse tutors We strategically place tutors in "best fit" environments tailored to meet student and school community needs We partner with schools to leverage tutor efforts, providing individualized instructional and social-emotional support TIPS increases student achievement and resilience and strengthens classroom performance. You'll collaborate closely with our Program Director who began as a tutor and helped build the organization's programming from the ground up. Together, you'll combine strategic leadership and operational excellence to expand reach, deepen impact, and strengthen sustainability. Improve student outcomes
