Refereeing is a great way to stay involved in soccer even when not playing, and to earn some money while doing it! We are looking for referees who are punctual, reliable, and can learn and enforce the rules. Just as important, we are looking for people who can positively engage with players to ensure that matches run smoothly and that makes The Footy League a welcoming place for •anyone• to play the game. For this course, there is ~no prior refereeing experience needed~.

If you:

know the basics of the game, but have never refereed formally before would like to earn some extra money on a flexible schedule while getting exercise and being close to the game are interested in deepening your knowledge of soccer's laws while providing a safe and enjoyable playing experience for The Footy League players are available Sundays (preferred but not required) then sign up for our FREE training now to begin your refereeing journey! In this 3 hour course we will cover the basic laws of the game and our The Footy League additions and modifications, referee conduct, and the basics of working as a soccer referee. At the conclusion of the course, there will be a brief quiz to test your knowledge, and to help determine if you will go on to a subsequent field practice session (dates to be announced) with current Footy League Referees for a follow up training that will prepare you for games. We hold classes periodically through each season, so by signing up here you will be notified of the next upcoming class and field session date. Responsibilities Enforce game rules and regulations consistently to maintain fair play during adult recreational soccer matches Make quick, confident decisions on game incidents, fouls, and disputes to uphold game integrity Communicate clearly with players to promote a respectful and safe sporting environment Monitor player conduct and address conflicts promptly using effective conflict management techniques Ensure all safety protocols are followed, including proper use of equipment and adherence to field regulations Keep accurate records of game scores, incidents, and any disciplinary actions taken during matches Collaborate with event organizers to ensure smooth scheduling and timely start of games Requirements At least 18 years of age Eligible to work in the US Soccer experience (playing, spectating) or familiarity with game rules is a plus Excellent communication skills to clearly explain rules and manage on-field interactions Proven ability in conflict management to handle disputes professionally and calmly Ability to stand, walk, jog, and remain alert for extended periods during games Punctuality and attention to detail Certification is not required, training will be provided This paid position offers the chance to develop your officiating skills while promoting the unique community that soccer creates.
