To apply, a candidate must have or be eligible to obtain a current Alaska Teacher Certificate issued by the Alaska Department of Education with an endorsement Vocational Education, Industrial Technology, or equivalent. Must have the ability to teach all secondary education levels in a multi-grade classroom; experience in teaching multi-grade classes preferred. An understanding of appropriate learning activities for secondary students is essential. Must be committed to personalized education and the empowerment of every student in their education. Must be energetic and have a positive approach to classroom activities and students. Effective communication skills, an understanding of the writing process and math concepts, and an ability to utilize technology are required. Requires a willingness to teach in an online, blended format and provide remote services to students using various technology-based platforms. Must have a willingness to co-teach and share students with other colleagues in the building to provide instruction in a collaborative atmosphere. Must be willing to continue learning, collaborate successfully with colleagues, and pursue opportunities for additional training.JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsible for planning and implementing instruction that exposes students to educational pathways and occupations including Computer Aided Drafting (CAD/CAM), Construction, Coding, Robotics Small Engines, Auto or other CTE related courses. Provide students with real world experiences through classroom instruction and hands-on application in a manner that fosters attainment of each student's maximum potential. Works as part of an instructional team to plan develop, implement and assess courses of instruction consistent with state CTE Department of Early Education Development standards and district-approved curriculum standards. Possesses strong academic background and teaching and/or experience in CTE. Able to use a variety of instructional strategies and methods to ensure high levels of student achievement. Able to promote high expectations, demonstrate a caring attitude and establish an environment that supports high achievement in students. Uses positive and productive techniques for improving student behavior and manages classroom efficiently and effectively. Ensures safety standards are established and followed consistently. Uses technology appropriately as part of the classroom management environment and integrates technology into student learning activities. Reports regularly to parents using a variety of strategies and is responsive to parental concerns. Enforces school rules, manages student behavior, and maintains accurate records of student attendance, conduct and academic performance records. Actively participates as a team member in faculty, staff and administration trainings and workshops to improve educational practice. Is enthusiastic flexible and committed to students reaching high learning standards. Uses computers proficiently for the production of documents, research, grading, and the keeping of student records. Adhere to the district's philosophy of instruction. Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities. Work cooperatively with special education teacher to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP). Work with other staff members to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements. Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process. Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing. Sponsor/co-sponsor an approved career and technical student organization, SkillsUSA and promote student participation. Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities including teaching and enforcing OSHA and KPBSD safety programs and training. Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials including a recognized post-secondary credential, such as AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator, etc.). Contribute to continued development of an up-to-date, relevant Computer Aided Drafting using Autodesk products and Construction program and provide vision for future needs. Engage in regular and systematic planning for classes with fellow teachers as available; integrate academic core curriculum into meaningful, relevant curriculum. Collaborate with principals, teachers, higher education, and industry advisors. Other duties as assigned.CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Must have a current Alaska Teacher Certificate issued by the Alaska Department of Education with an endorsement in a secondary content areas Vocational Education, Industrial Technology, or equivalent on/or before the first contract day.Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff and the general public.Mathematical Skills:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram or schedule form.Other Skills and Abilities:
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Ability to complete OSHA 10 training and certification and maintain safety standards in CTE courses.Physical Demands:
