SUPERVISOR OF VOCATIONAL INSTRUCTION
- California State Prison, Solano at California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Statewide Print Application Deadline 7/3/2026 11:55 PM Pacific Date Posted 6/22/2026 Contact Andrea Collins Number of Openings 1 Salary Pay Range $10,261.00 - $13, 489.00 Monthly Add'l Salary Info New to state candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification Length of Work Year 12 Employment Type Full Time Job Summary Job Summary Job Description and Duties Under the direction of the Supervisor of Correctional Education Programs (SCEP), and in coordination with the Career Technical Education (CTE) headquarters unit, the Supervisor of Vocational Instruction (SVI) will be responsible for every aspect of supporting and evaluating CTE programs. Supporting and evaluating CTE programs includes, but is not limited to, developing program quality standards for program evaluation, communicating program quality standards to staff and supervisors, regularly reporting program quality formative and summative data, coaching teachers on effective instructional strategies, interpreting educational policy, and developing well-informed policy recommendations.
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications Possession of a valid regular or provisional credential from among the following issued by the Commission for
Teacher Preparation and Licensing:
1. General Administration Credential (Standard Administration Credential). or 2. Secondary School Administration Credential (Standard Administration Credential). or 3. Secondary School Supervision Credential (Standard Supervision Credential). or 4. Special Secondary Vocational Class A Credential with Supervision Authorization in Trade and Industrial and Public Service Education. (Applicants holding this credential must have completed ten semester hours of professional course work pertaining to the organization, supervision, and legal aspects of vocational education, coordination, and school and community relations. These ten semester hours are in addition to the 28 semester hours required for the full-time basic teaching credential and shall be offered by the Division of Vocational Education, located at the University of California, Berkeley and Los Angeles.). or 5. Special Secondary Vocational Class B with Supervision Authorization in Trade and Industrial and Public Service Education. or 6. Secondary School Administration Credential in Trade and Industrial Education. or 7. Standard Supervision Credential in Trade and Technical and Industrial Education. (Applicants who do not possess the required credential will be admitted to the examination, but must secure the credential before they will be considered eligible for appointment.) and
Experience:
Two years of administrative, supervisory, or teaching experience in an organized vocational training program. Job Characteristics Positions in this class supervise all or a portion of the vocational education program of a correctional school or institution under the direction of the next higher class Supervisor of Correctional Education Programs. Typical Tasks Plans and assigns work, gives instruction, maintains discipline, evaluates performance, and resolves educational and administrative problems involved in the supervision of the work of teachers and students in the vocational instruction program of a correctional school or institution; assists in planning and developing vocational work curricula suited to the needs and aptitudes of students; assists in coordinating the vocational instruction program with other institution activities; cooperates with the Supervisor of Academic Instruction (Correctional Facility) to correlate the academic and vocational instruction programs; recommends the adoption of vocational and trade textbooks and teaching methods and procedures; may teach vocational classes; administers or supervises the administration, evaluation, and interpretation of trade aptitude and other psychological and aptitude tests; confers with and counsels students as to the proper vocational course of study; assists teachers with problems of discipline and instruction; does research work and makes special studies regarding the rehabilitation of problem students; assists in planning and conducting assembly programs; confers with educators in other school systems; attends psychological and psychiatric conferences; orders school equipment and supplies; keeps records and prepares reports; maintains order and supervises the conduct of persons committed to the Departments of Corrections and the Youth Authority; prevents escapes and injury by these persons to themselves or others or to property; maintains security of working areas and work materials; inspects premises and searches inmates, wards, residents, or patients for contraband, such as weapons or illegal drugs.
