At Ascend, we believe in creating new associations with learning and the classroom that are warm, patient, and equitable. The Educator communicates with the family, coordinates with schools and districts to build relationships and foster academic progress, holds students accountable with tact, and guides students toward a balance of work and play. The Educator will be trained to deliver a specialized, practical curriculum fostering a growth mindset and executive function development. The Educator will be a part of an organization that emphasizes equity and diversity of not only race, but sexual and gender orientation as well. Duties and Responsibilities − Prepare and deliver short, specialized lessons/discussions − Manage and maintain classroom engagement of the students throughout "class time" periods − Utilize and develop understanding of the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional growth patterns of students − Facilitate, encourage, and inspire the creation of individualized passion projects − Facilitate homework to the students providing encouragement, strategies, and accountability in overall progress suitable to the client's needs − Conduct business in an appropriate manner including poise, tact, good judgment, and ability to work effectively with District personnel, community representatives, parents, and students − Develop thoughtful educational plans designed to improve executive functions − Organize and maintain classroom facility (art supplies, closet organization, computer and information storage and maintenance) − Develop a firm understanding of IEP's, 504's, and the rights of students in adverse situations due to the leave required to treat mental health − Communicate consistently and collaboratively with the Director of Education to ensure the needs of all clients are being met − Collaborate with the clinical team when needed − Willing to learn about and implement evidence-based strategies to improve student motivation, engagement, and creative confidence − Maintain a gentle, warm, and supportive attitude and demeanor in the face of student unrest to help promote a new association with classrooms, learning, and growth − Participates in on-going departmental training and meetings when required − Demonstrate tact, initiative, resourcefulness, professional manner, enthusiasm, and non-judgmental attitude − Will fulfill any and all other duties assigned by the Director of Education and/or organizational leadership Education/ Skill Requirements − Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, and/or with relevant experience − A Master's Degree in relevant field, preferred not required − Experience with adolescents strongly preferred (wide range of experiences welcomed, any experience with disordered eating a plus) − Possess a working general knowledge base in English, Math, History, and Science − Must have ability to travel between different locations − Must attend all training, education, and staff enrichment activities − Must have ability to explain how and why something is done in the manner by which is asked of a client − CPR and Water Safety Certification − Must be able to pass a federal background check and live-scan
