Education Position Description:
This individual will be responsible for providing the guidance and instruction necessary to develop and sustain a program that prepares students with the academic competencies which are essential to success in welding. Plan, guide, and evaluate the learning process of students for whom the instructor is responsible. Equip students with entry level job skills in welding trades. Instruct and train welders to meet specifications for welding. Provide welding technical support and assist management with making appropriate strategic decisions. Actively engage in promoting workplace health and safety related areas.
Essential Functions:
Teach a broad range of Welding and Welding technology courses. Plan and deliver curriculum based upon the established standards for the program. Maintain control and inventory of classroom equipment, instructional materials, and supplies. Collaborate with other instructors and staff to provide appropriate learning opportunities for students. Continue growth in professional development. Provide training to new instructors on site and/or other Summit Campuses, as needed Demonstrate positive interpersonal relationships by practicing good human relations with students, and staff. Provide appropriate feedback to students. Follow Summit polices and procedures in performing assigned responsibilities and all compliance requirements from accrediting agencies. Provide and produce evaluation strategies and instruments appropriate for assessing student needs and measuring academic growth and understanding Provide a learning environment appropriate for enhancing academic progress Provide instructional methodologies consistent with student needs within the program guidelines Provide well defined goals for student achievements Motivate and encourage optimum achievement in students Maintain up to date academic and daily attendance records in compliance with school and regulatory organization policies and guidelines Provide continuing guidance, evaluation and testing to measure student progress Deliver lecture material in a professional manner and consistent with program curricular guidelines Assist students in applicable practicum's and technical assignments Accurately correct all assignments, test, quizzes and final examinations and assign equivalency grades within school grading policy Immediately report any observed or perceived difficulties in student progress to supervisors and, upon approval, initiate appropriate actions to rectify the issues. Provide counseling and tutorial services to students as required Assist in updating, revising and implementing curricular objectives and content Foster effective communication between students, staff and administration Maintain program equipment and facilities in a safe and efficient manner and/or report any equipment malfunctions, deficiencies or safety hazards to supervisor immediately upon discovery Perform other duties as assigned Education and/or
Work Experience Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
Must possess a minimum of three years of experience, education and training in current practices of the subject matter being taught - Welding.
Preferred experience:
Strong written and verbal communication skills, and ability to use computer. Enjoy working with a diverse group of students Teaching experience preferred.
Licensure Requirements:
None Required.
Preferred:
AWS Certification.
Training Requirements:
Each instructor shall maintain their knowledge by completing continuing education courses in his or her subject area, classroom management or other course related to teaching. Faculty are required to maintain current licensure, as applicable, at employees own cost. Instructors are required to participate in all assigned training with Summit College and may be called upon to provide training to newly hired instructors (see essential functions). Physical /
Working Requirements:
Work primarily in a climate‐ controlled environment in warehouse setting with minimal of safety/health hazard potential. Periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer and walking throughout classroom and work area. Occasional lifting (overhead, waist level) up to 20‐25 pounds at a time, and working with equipment.
