The ideal candidate will have a strong background in culinary arts and a genuine interest in teaching people how to prepare delicious dishes from a variety of different cuisines. This role requires creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to teach basic cooking skills to novices. We are looking to find chefs who are interested in teaching classes on both daytimes and evenings classes could start at 11am or 3pm or 6pm etc. Depending on client demand and your availability, you could be teaching one class per month or one per week, with potential for more frequent bookings as we grow.
Note about compensation:
We pay $500 per class, plus additional compensation can be earned for add-on duties (kitchen site visits, etc.) and larger class sizes. Classes are two hours long, and your time commitment would include approximately 3-5 additional hours for preparation, obtaining ingredients, etc. For the interview, please be prepared to answer a question about how you would teach a cooking class, and what are the most important things to do to make a cooking class successful. If you have experience as a cooking class instructor, use your past experience to answer this question. If you have experience as a chef but haven't worked as an instructor in the past, answer this question as a sort of brainstorm/ first draft exercise - we will train and give you best practices to prepare you for your first class once you're hired. Responsibilities Teach people how to prepare delicious dishes. Clients may include people with a range of skill levels, so you must adapt your teaching to fit the client. Plan menus/curriculum from a variety of cuisines that align with requested dietary guidelines and accommodate any food allergies or restrictions. Prepare for the class by shopping for proper ingredients using our agreed upon budget Bringing the equipment to the space, if needed Setting up the location for the class Cooking appetizers, charcuterie boards for the customers Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen area, adhering to health and safety standards. Present and communicate in a way that keeps the class fun and engaging Experience Previous experience as a cook or in a culinary role is required Previous experience as an educator or teacher, particular of cooking classes is a huge plus Strong knowledge of culinary techniques, food safety practices, and kitchen management principles. Experience in menu planning and catering services is preferred. Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with staff and guests. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail. Ideally you have a background in both restaurants and working as a private chef or cooking class instructor We encourage candidates who are enthusiastic about teaching culinary skills to all kinds of different people and are prepared to adapt to the needs of each particular client and the circumstances of the booking. In some cases may require hauling equipment/pans/tableware to the location of the class. We also pay assistants to help you so if you have colleagues in the culinary field who will work with you on our classes that is a huge plus.
