Job Description

Early Care and Education Teacher Assistant Department:
Lucy Brock Child Dev Lab Prog - 260820 Minimum Qualifications Graduation from high school and one year of related childcare experience. Degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. License/Certification Required Essential Job Functions Job Duties & Responsibilities Support Co-Constructed Learning Collaborate with the lead teacher(s) to design and facilitate emergent, child-centered projects and activities based on children's interests. Observe and document children's explorations, conversations, and creations to inform planning and assessment. Set up provocations and intentional learning spaces that encourage inquiry and creative expression. Foster Relationships Build warm, respectful relationships with children, families, and colleagues. Serve as a co-learner, actively engaging with children as they explore and discover. Support children in collaborative problem-solving and the development of social-emotional skills. Curriculum Documentation, Assessment, and Communication Assist in creating meaningful documentation of children's learning such as Playful Learning Moments , including photographs, notes, and visual displays. Contribute to assessment portfolios that celebrate each child's development. Participate in family-teacher dialogues to share insights into children's growth and project work. Classroom Environment Help maintain a thoughtfully arranged, aesthetically pleasing, and responsive learning environment that reflects children's ideas and projects. Encourage respect for materials and shared spaces, reinforcing a sense of responsibility and care. Collaboration and Professional Growth Collaborate with the teaching team to reflect on classroom practices and assist in planning the next steps in learning experiences. Participate in professional development opportunities to deepen understanding of the Reggio Emilia Approach and child development. Complete yearly in-service training hours as required for licensing by the NC Division of Child Development and Early Education Safety and Well-Being Ensure the safety and well-being of children by following program policies and best practices. Support children in daily routines, transitions, and self-care skills in a respectful, developmentally appropriate, and empowering manner. Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position Understanding of and a belief in inquiry-based, child-led education. Experience or interest in assisting in documenting children's learning through creative and visual mediums. Strong communication and collaboration skills. Patience, empathy, and the ability to adapt to the dynamic nature of an emergent curriculum. Team-oriented with a proactive and flexible, solution-oriented mindset. Willingness to learn about the growth and development of young children and the ability to use this knowledge to plan and implement practices and educational techniques used in teaching children 0 to 5 years of age. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with students, families, colleagues, and faculty associated with the program. Receive "Qualified" status from the
NC DCDEE
background check. Preferred Qualifications Degree in child development or related field Experience working in a childcare setting
Work Schedule/Hours:
The Lucy Brock Child Development Center is open Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. An 8-hour workday will be determined by the administration.
