Required Qualifications :
Master's degree in Education or a Master's degree in a closely related field of study, with a minimum of eighteen (18) graduate credits in Education. Any equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience as approved by the Human Resources Department. Experience working with ethnically diverse and rural student populations; to include working with underprepared students. Demonstrates an appreciation for and understanding of the unique needs of the student in both academic and vocational disciplines in the Education field.

Background:
Located in Carlsbad, New Mexico, Southeast New Mexico College (SENMC) is a newly independent public community college accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. A proud Hispanic Serving Institution, it awards certificates and associate degrees that serve the needs of its region and prepare students to transfer to programs at other colleges or universities. SENMC offers Early College and Dual Credit programs in collaboration with local high schools. Southeast New Mexico College enjoys the strong support of its community, and has been awarded several grants, which include $11.7 million from the U.S. Department of Energy and several multimillion-dollar grants from the U.S. Department of Education for student support. The college's diverse employee pool includes 40 full-time faculty, 48 adjunct faculty, and 102 staff members. The Dual Credit Program at Southeast New Mexico College provides high school students with the opportunity to earn college credit while still enrolled in high school. Position Summary:
Southeast New Mexico College (SENMC) is seeking applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Education. This position will teach dual-credit Education courses at Carlsbad High School (CHS) in Carlsbad, NM. The faculty member is responsible for delivering high-quality, student-centered instruction that supports student success and contributes to curriculum development, assessment, and continuous improvement efforts. In addition to teaching, the faculty member will engage in institutional service and collaborate across departments to support a diverse student population, aligning with CHS's mission to foster academic excellence, personal growth, and student success. This is an in-person position requiring on-site instruction and active participation in campus activities. Requirements for the
Position:
This position is a 10-month contract with a 5/5 teaching load (15 credit hours per semester) consisting of 100- and 200-level courses. The faculty member is expected to maintain regular office hours, participate in committees and professional development, and support student engagement and success. The selected candidate must reside within commuting distance of Carlsbad High School due to the in-person nature of the role. New state requirements include completion of Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS) training, 6 hours of Science of Reading coursework, and 100 hours of supervised field experience in the Science of Reading, which may be completed upon hire.
Duties:
The duties below are representative of the duties of the classification and are not intended to cover all of the duties performed by the incumbent(s) of any particular position. Delivers in person classroom instruction that supports the learning outcomes of the Education courses, including supervising and/or observing students on field experiences. Must be willing to teach Monday through Friday or in alignment with the Carlsbad High School schedule. Must participate in professional development activities. Provides students with a complete syllabus based on SENMC and CHS requirements. Evaluates student performance and instructional methods using the college's established system of assessment. Maintains an accurate and up-to-date record of student academic performance. Provides students with timely information and feedback on academic progress relative to quizzes, tests, homework assignments, and projects. Plans, designs, and provides instruction which reflects an understanding of the course's objectives and curriculum. Evaluates student achievement of curricular and course objectives and learning outcomes related to the knowledge and practice of Education professions. Uses technology tools including, but not limited to, Canvas, Google Classroom, MS Office, email. Serves as a member of the high school's and college's various governance committees and task forces to promote institutional/instructional efficiency and support a culture of learning. Holds regular office hours in accordance with the policies established in the SENMC Faculty Handbook and the CHS Teacher Handbook or is available for parents and students as needed. Collaborates with other departments regarding interdisciplinary projects, campus events, and instructional training. Attends scheduled faculty meetings, department meetings, required training, and committee meetings. Stays abreast of trends, advancements, and changes within the Education field; adjusts curriculum to align with New Mexico Public Education Department and workforce demands.
