ONC BOCES
New Visions in Education program provides highly motivated high school seniors with an immersive, college-level experience designed to explore careers in teaching, learning, and student support services. Students earn 18 transferable college credits through SUNY Oneonta and SUNY Albany while engaging in rigorous academic study, professional training, and meaningful fieldwork. Students participate in a minimum of 6 hours of supervised fieldwork per week, gaining hands-on experience in a variety of educational and human-service settings, including elementary and secondary classrooms, therapy services, counseling offices, and special area programs. The curriculum emphasizes professional ethics, child development, classroom management, diversity in education, and New York State Learning Standards. Students will also complete DASA training and mandated reporter training. Those who turn 18 during the program may complete all requirements to apply with New York State Education Department to become an Initial Teaching Assistant, providing an immediate pathway to employment. Instruction and Curriculum Delivery Teach and facilitate college-level coursework aligned with SUNY Oneonta expectations, including:

  • Diversity and Teaching (SUNY Oneonta) Teach and facilitate college-level coursework aligned with SUNY Albany expectations, including: English
  • Shakespeare Deliver instruction supporting student understanding of professional ethics, classroom management, NYS Learning Standards, teacher certification pathways, working with students with disabilities, diversity/equity/inclusion, and current issues in education.
Incorporate reflective practice, discussion-based learning, and authentic performance tasks aligned with college-credit requirements. Student Support and Career Readiness Mentor students exploring education and human-service career pathways. Guide students through fieldwork, shadowing, and internship requirements. Support students in earning TCIS, DASA, and mandated reporter credentials. Assist eligible students in completing Initial Teaching Assistant certification requirements. Foster strong communication and relationships with students, families, and partner districts while promoting professionalism, ethical decision-making, and effective communication. Fieldwork Coordination Coordinate and supervise weekly fieldwork placements across multiple educational settings. Maintain partnerships with classrooms (elementary/secondary), therapy providers, special area programs, and counseling/student support services. Conduct site visits, monitor student progress, and ensure safe, developmentally appropriate placements aligned with program goals. Program and Community Engagement Maintain strong relationships with higher education partners to ensure curriculum fidelity and credit alignment. Promote student achievements through advisory committees, community outreach, and recruitment events. Collaborate with CTE colleagues on interdisciplinary opportunities. Participate in program meetings, professional development, and school-wide initiatives. Professional Responsibilities Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, fieldwork hours, and program outcomes. Ensure compliance with BOCES policies, SUNY partner expectations, and NYSED regulations. Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to equity. Contribute to committees, events, and initiatives as assigned. 2025-2026
School Year:
Starting Base Salary:
$48,890 Plus $525 per year of experience Plus $45 per graduate credit Plus $1,100 per master's degree NYS retirement, EAP, continuing education assistance, and exceptional insurance, including retiree health insurance, are available. Appropriate, valid NYS Certification In-depth, comprehensive work experience teaching in an acceptable PreK-12 educational setting in the subject area of certification, which will include writing and implementing lesson plans and units of study for diverse learners, assessing students, using data to inform instruction, and engaging in daily responsibilities of a classroom teacher, including collaborating with colleagues.
