Job Description

Welding Instructor for 2026-2027 School Year
DUTIES:
Putnam Northern Westchester BOCES anticipates the need to teach Welding full-time to high school juniors and seniors in the 2026-2027 school year. Candidate must be able to work with advanced students as well as students with special needs. Develop and deliver rigorous, relevant welding instruction aligned with industry standards. Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of a wide range of learners with varying cognitive abilities. Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment in a lab/shop setting. Integrate real-world applications and industry practices into daily instruction. Assess student progress and provide timely, constructive feedback. Maintain equipment, tools, and materials in accordance with safety regulations and best practices. Collaborate with fellow Tech Center teachers and staff to support interdisciplinary learning and student success and to develop integrated projects, new programs and/or initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS
NYS
CTE 7-12
Teacher Certification in Welding or eligible for the certification is required. Recent industry experience in welding required. Experience with pipe fitting and/or pipe welding strongly preferred. Some formal training in welding (trade school, technical program, or college coursework). Prior teaching experience preferred (formal or informal instructional experience considered). Strong understanding of welding techniques, tools, safety standards, and industry expectations. Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations. Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
CHARACTERISTICS DESIRED
Must have a positive, can-do attitude. Able to develop rigorous and relevant lessons in welding for a wide range of students with varying levels of cognitive abilities and collaborate with other Tech Center teachers. Prior teaching experience preferred. Passion for teaching and mentoring students entering the skilled trades. Patience, flexibility, and a student-centered mindset. Commitment to equity and access in Career and Technical Education Willingness to stay current with evolving industry trends and technologies. Team oriented and eager to collaborate across programs.
