Director of Elementary Education/Literacy Instructor - Department of Education Job Title Director of Elementary Education/Literacy Instructor - Department of Education Department Education Posting Number req724 Description of Job Duties Department of Education Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) invites applications for the position of Director of Elementary Education and Literacy Instructor . This leadership opportunity is ideal for an energetic, student-centered educator committed to preparing future teachers, advancing literacy education, and growing high-quality academic programs. The successful candidate will be a dynamic instructor, mentor, and collaborative leader who supports student success, program excellence, and continuous improvement through strong partnerships with faculty, schools, and community stakeholders. Essential Duties & Responsibilities The Director of Elementary Education will: Provide leadership for the Elementary Education program, including curriculum development, assessment, accreditation, and continuous improvement efforts. Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in literacy education, reading instruction, and related areas. Coordinate program requirements, plans of study, and curriculum revisions. Collect, analyze, and report assessment data for university, state, and accreditation purposes. Lead program review activities and facilitate meetings with faculty and advisory boards. Assist with course scheduling, adjunct recruitment, and program operations. Recruit and advise students while supporting enrollment growth and retention initiatives. Collaborate with PK-12 school partners to strengthen clinical experiences and community engagement. Participate in university, departmental, and professional service activities. Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair.

Education and Experience Required Qualifications Master's degree in Reading Specialist, Literacy Education, Reading Education, Curriculum and Instruction with a literacy emphasis, or a closely related field. Successful PK-8 teaching experience. Minimum of 5 years. Demonstrated expertise in evidence-based literacy instruction and reading practices. Commitment to earning CERI, CALP, and/or CALT certification and pursuing a doctoral degree. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Commitment to student engagement, mentorship, recruitment, and academic success. Positive, optimistic, and solution-oriented approach to leadership, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Preferred Qualifications Earned doctorate in Education or a related field. CERI, CALP, and/or CALT certification. Experience with educator preparation accreditation, assessment systems, and program evaluation. Experience in curriculum development, program leadership, recruitment, retention, and enrollment growth. Experience building partnerships with schools, districts, and community organizations.
