Job Summary:
Primary Purpose To teach education courses as assigned and to provide suitable instruction to other programs and transfer students. First Consideration will be given to applicants who apply by April 30th, 2026. This position is open until filled. This position is for the 2026-2027 Academic Year (Sept 2026). Description of Essential Functions Instruction (80% of Time) -Teach a range of education and early learning classes, which may include the introductory education courses within the state AAOT/Elem Ed. statewide transfer degree and early learning developmental courses in support of the college Early Childhood Education program. Teach course information to students in groups and individually using instructional methodology appropriate to the audience and to the subject (e.g. lecture, demonstration, group discussion, technology-enhanced delivery, computer-assisted delivery, and distance delivery). Must be able to explain and deliver materials in a variety of ways to meet the needs of a broad range of learning abilities. -Curriculum development and modification by working with the Instructional Dean and other department faculty members in developing or modifying course content, course objectives, standards and instructional methods, degree and certificate programs. Curriculum development may include projects such as revising and creating new courses in support of Southwestern's articulated programs of study with partner universities. Finally, instructional work includes curriculum review and redesign that typically accompanies program reviews. Other Institutional Duties (20% of Time)
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's Degree in Education or related discipline with the field of education. Only degrees received from an accredited institution will be accepted. Accreditation must be recognized by the office of degree authorization, US Department of Education, as required by
ORS 348.609.
Final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts for required degree. A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of teaching experience at the K-8 school level.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants for this position possessing one or more of the following knowledge, skills and abilities with receive preferred consideration through the selection process: Teaching experience at the college level or the equivalent. Significant teaching or administrative experience (10 plus years) within an elementary or early learning classroom. Demonstrated learning and success in adult instruction. Demonstrated ability to work independently and professionally in areas of instruction and course and curriculum development. Demonstrated ability to work with students with a wide range of ages, backgrounds, and academic preparedness. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring students
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OR LICENSES
Must reside in the State of Oregon. Southwestern Oregon Community College is unable to support out of state employment at this time. Final candidates will be subject to a criminal background check as part of the employment process.
