Job Description:
Under the direction of the Dean of the Extension School, the Continuing Education (CE) Instructor is responsible for conducting non-degree professional certificate programs, courses, and seminars for non-credit individuals and organizations through the Roger Williams University's Extension School. We seek a knowledgeable and dedicated instructor to teach in our HVACR Apprenticeship Program. The instructor will deliver related training instruction (RTI) to apprentices working toward their license. This part-time role is ideal for a licensed electrician who is passionate about mentoring and preparing the next generation of professionals in the electrical trade. Deliver engaging, high-quality instruction aligned with the Rhode Island Department of Labor & Training (DLT) apprenticeship standards. Teach approximately 150 hours of related instruction over the academic year, plus additional hours of preparation. Attend 3-5 administrative/program review meetings a year. Provide students with instruction in both theory and application of HVACR concepts, safety practices, and trade skills. Manage classroom dynamics effectively to ensure a professional, respectful, and safe learning environment. Maintain accurate attendance and grade records in accordance with program policies. Collaborate with program administrators to ensure curriculum compliance and student success. Foster an inclusive and respectful classroom environment that supports diverse learners. Ensure all instruction complies with RIDLT, NCCER, OSHA, and university standards.
Job Requirements:
Minimum of five years of industry experience in HVAC, refrigeration, or mechanical systems. Valid Rhode Island Refrigeration I and/ or II License. Strong working knowledge of system design, controls, safety, and trade codes. Prior teaching, training, or supervisory experience (strongly preferred). Demonstrated ability to manage classroom dynamics and support diverse learners. Strong communication and organizational skills. Commitment to student success and workforce development. Ability to attend a 40-hour NCCER Craft Instructor training (if not yet completed) before teaching appointment. Comfort using basic computer applications for attendance, grades, and communication (or willingness to learn). At the University's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the University, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
