Yesterday Job DescriptionPOSITION PURPOSE
The Automotive Technology Instructor will develop curriculum and provide instruction for the Technology Center Career & Technical Education (CTE) automotive classes. The class provides exploratory experiences in automotive maintenance & light repair and helps students become successful employees or business owners. The class emphasizes safety, procedures, equipment and tool use while preparing students to take the ASE Maintenance & Light Repair exam for certification. Both first- and second-year students can earn direct college credit. This position reports directly to the Director of the Technology Center with direction from the District Coordinator of Career and Technology Education.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and deliver automotive maintenance and repair curriculum based on key learning objectives, utilizing best practices and various technologies to deliver instruction; Create a syllabus which includes key learning objectives, class norms, attendance and grading policies, work habits expectations, a calendar of due dates for class assignments, projects, quizzes, tests, etc.; Develop authentic, engaging, hands-on learning projects to meet learning objectives; Develop assessments which track effectiveness of teaching and learning; Develop classroom work habit expectations and grading incentives, tracking system, etc.; Maintain online attendance and grading on a timely basis; Develop and maintain contacts and partnerships with local industry professionals, host at least two advisory committee meetings each year; Annually upload required information to the State's online auditing system (Navigator) as required; Participate in high school and CTE staff meetings as well as professional development opportunities provided through the district and the state; Work with the administration and district coordinator to obtain necessary materials and resources; Participate in student CTE organizations, workshops and competitions (SkillsUSA, etc.); Take part in promoting and marketing the program to meet enrollment goals; Communicate with students' high school counselors and administration concerning academic, attendance, or discipline issues which affect a student's learning and/or grades; Complete the annual checkout with administration and the District Coordinator of Career and Technical Education; Must possess excellent organizational skills, technology skills, be detailed and team oriented, and have excellent communication skills. Must stay current with changes that occur in the industry and discipline taught; Other duties as assigned.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversees the work of assigned instructional aides and volunteers.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Must be State of South Carolina, ASE or NATEF certified and hold one of the State of South Carolina Certifications Must qualify for the State of South Carolina's Career and Technical Education (CTE) Work-Based Certification Valid South Carolina Drivers' LicenseExperience:
Must meet the minimum industry experience requirements for the requested work-based field.Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with high school age students in diverse populations; ASE Master Tech Certification; Post-secondary degrees or classes in automotive service and/or education; Able to use or learn Microsoft Office Products and other technologies for the classroom.JOB REQUIREMENTS

Ability to read English and comprehend complex technical language. Ability to write memoranda and correspondence in English. Ability to effectively present information in one-to-one and small group situations.Mathematical Skills:
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy.Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed, but basic, written or oral instructions in English. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.Other Skills and Abilities:
Ability to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisor(s), staff, students, parents and community. Usually there is a need to motivate, establish rapport, gain support, or persuade or influence individuals or groups. Occasional debate is often characteristic of the contact and may require considerable skill in diplomacy, tact and discretion.Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and may be continuously required to stand. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. The employee may be required to sit at a desk and use a computer for long periods of time.Working Conditions:
