QUALIFICATIONS
West Virginia Certification in Agricultural Education 7-12 Duties and Responsibilities The Agricultural Education Instructor is employed by the local school district to teach agricultural education courses approved by the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE). The instructor is responsible for providing classroom instruction, supervising student Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) programs, and serving as advisor for the local FFA chapter. These three componentsâ€"classroom instruction, SAE, and FFAâ€"are considered integral and interrelated parts of a comprehensive agricultural education program.
Program Focus:
Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources, Animal Production/ Livestock Production and Management, Animal Processing, Forestry, Soil and Land Management, Horticulture, Greenhouse Management and Production, Agriculture mechanics Classroom Instruction Provide instruction that meets the educational needs of students in grades 6â€"12 by delivering current, relevant knowledge and skills related to agricultural education based on the

recommended CSO's. Teach only agricultural education courses approved by the West Virginia Department of Education and the local Board of Education. Develop and maintain lesson plans, demonstrations, instructional materials, and assessments aligned to course standards. Maintain a classroom management plan and safety pan for CTE work areas. Use summative and formative assessment to make decisions on student learning. Follow Code of Conduct and school policies and procedures. Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, including hands-on learning, laboratory activities, and real-world applications. Conduct and supervise field trips both within and outside the school district when appropriate to enhance student learning. Conduct NOCTI testing yearly or other state assessment related to College and Career Readiness Standards. Conduct instruction using a simulated workplace model. Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) Program Ensure that all agricultural education students develop and maintain an approved Supervised Agricultural Experience program. Supervise student SAEs through regular school-based, worksite, and/or home visits. Provide individualized feedback, guidance, and evaluation to students regarding their SAE projects. Assist students in maintaining accurate and complete SAE records using approved recordkeeping systems. Evaluate SAE programs as part of the student's agricultural education experience. FFA (Future Farmers of America) Serve as the advisor for the local FFA chapter and promote FFA as an integral component of the agricultural education program. Provide opportunities for students to actively participate in local, district, state, and national FFA activities. Conduct FFA requirement activities with 4th-8th grade students. Oversee end of the year FFA banquet. Assist students in planning, coordinating, and conducting FFA meetings, activities, and events. Prepare and train FFA members for Career Development Events (CDEs), Leadership Development Events (LDEs), and agricultural contests. Assist students in preparing applications for FFA proficiency awards, state degrees, and the American FFA Degree. Develop and submit a summer calendar outlining FFA activities, competitions, livestock shows, and other supervised events the instructor will attend. Oversee the Ham, Bacon, and Egg Project.   • Campus Supervision of Students Supervise students Supervise Students at all off-campus activities such as conventions, contests, workshops, field trips, etc.
, associated with the agriculture, food, and natural resources program and the FFA. Program Leadership and Community Involvement Conduct fundraising efforts to fund school programs, FFA program development and scholarship opportunities. Maintain an active Agricultural Education Advisory Committee that meets officially at least two times per year to discuss program goals, direction, and improvement. Keep meeting agendas and minutes on file in compliance with local and state requirements. Maintain a positive relationship with parents, community members, local businesses, and agricultural organizations. Coordinate with the local extension agency and 4_H program on shared activities. Summer Program Responsibilities The instructor is expected to maintain an active agricultural education program during the summer months, which includes: Supervising and evaluating student SAEs. Advising and supervising FFA activities, including conferences, camps, competitions, and exhibitions. Working with community members, advisory committee participants, and local organizations on agricultural educationâ€"related projects or activities.
