In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for analyzing project blueprints, specifications, and other documentation to prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for various electrical installations. You will collaborate with project managers, engineers, clients, and suppliers to ensure projects are financially viable and meet all regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of technical electrical knowledge, communication skills and financial understanding to support our bidding process and project success.
Key Responsibilities:
Analyze Project Requirements:
Review architectural and engineering blueprints, specifications, and related documents to define the project scope, identify required materials, labor, and equipment.
Prepare Cost Estimates:
Conduct detailed material take-offs and calculate labor, equipment, and time requirements to develop comprehensive cost estimates.
Generate Proposals & Bids:
Compile and present clear, detailed, and competitive bid proposals to clients and senior management, ensuring all documentation is accurate and submitted on time.
Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination:
Evaluate and negotiate supplier and subcontractor bids and quotes to ensure cost-effectiveness and project accuracy.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work with project managers, engineers, general contractors, and clients to clarify project details, resolve discrepancies, and facilitate smooth project handoffs.
Market Research:
Stay current with industry standards, regulations, material prices, and labor rates to ensure estimates are competitive and realistic.
Documentation and Tracking:
Maintain records of historical data, estimates, and project performance for future reference and continuous process improvement.
Site Visits:
Conduct occasional site visits to assess project conditions and verify estimate accuracy.
Qualifications & Skills:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience with Accubid or equivalent bidding software. Procore and Bluebeam experience is a plus.
Experience:
Minimum of three years of proven experience in electrical estimating or a related role within the construction/electrical industry. Field experience as an electrician is a strong asset.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in electrical estimating software (e.g., Accubid, ConEst, Bluebeam, Trimble). Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documents. In-depth knowledge of electrical systems, components, installation practices, and the National Electrical Code (NEC). Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, for cost calculations and analysis.
Soft Skills:
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy. Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. Effective time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
