Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach courses in electrical theory, residential/commercial wiring, NEC code, safety practices, and related subjects. Provide hands-on lab instruction using industry-standard tools and equipment. Develop and deliver curriculum aligned with industry standards (e.g., NEC) Develop and update course materials to align with current industry standards and licensing requirements. Prepare and provide course syllabi and instructional materials to students Provide hands-on lab instruction and supervise student projects Maintain student discipline through effective classroom management. Assess student performance and provide timely feedback to support learning. Maintain accurate student records, including attendance, grades, and materials, using a computerized learning management system. Keep appropriate records of testing and grading, as per college standards. Hold office hours for student consultations and academic support. Assist students with career planning and job placement. Maintain a safe and organized lab/classroom environment Develop and maintain professional relations with the industry through industry visits and advisory committee meetings. Participate in departmental meetings, advisory committees, and professional development. Stay current with industry trends, tools, and technologies. Fulfill professional assignments in accordance with the South Louisiana Community College calendar and contractual obligations.Minimum Qualifications :
A Baccalaureate degree in the discipline and at least two (2) years of directly related occupational experience, OR An associate degree in the discipline and three (3) years of occupational experience and skill in the teaching discipline with verifiable academic credentials, qualifications, or competencies appropriate for teaching the course content- , OR A relevant diploma or certificate in the discipline and four (4) years of occupational experience and skill in the teaching discipline with verifiable academic credentials, qualifications, or competencies appropriate for teaching the course content
- , OR At least five (5) years of occupational experience and skill in the teaching discipline with verifiable qualifications or competencies appropriate for teaching the course content
- . Academic coursework, work experience, licenses, certifications, credentials, competencies, or other experiences appropriate for teaching the course content must be documented and justified.
- Faculty must additionally demonstrate steady progress to attain an associate degree to be considered for continued employment.
Preferred Qualifications :
Teaching experience in secondary and/or post-secondary education is preferred. NCCER Craft Instructor Certification Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite Strong communication and organizational skills Experience with, or willingness to learn, Learning Management Systems (LMS)Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry tools, equipment or training materials weighing between 10-50 lbs. Capability to stand for long periods during lectures, demonstrations and supervising students in labs. Ability to use hand tools, handle wiring, and demonstrate electrical tasks with precision. Ability to kneel, bend, reach, and occasionally climb ladders to demonstrate installation. Good eyesight (often with correction) and hand-eye coordination to work with small components and ensure safety.Work Environment:
Instruction is primarily delivered in climate-controlled classroom settings. Regular hands-on training in laboratories and workshops requiring the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and possible exposure to elevated noise levels. Occasional work involves demonstrating and supervising the use of electrical systems, and tools in a variety of indoor and outdoor conditions. Commitment to strict adherence to all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory standards is required at all times.Benefits:
