Job Description

The Electrician Maintenance Technician will assist Electricians in the execution of the installation, relocation, modification, repair, replacement, testing, and maintenance of all standard voltage electrical systems typically found in a research laboratory environment while adhering to the NEC, UBC, and other applicable codes and sound electrical engineering standards. Responsibilities Assists qualified electricians in the performance of a wide variety of electrical related tasks, including new construction, remodeling, renovation and demolition. Assists in inspecting and testing electrical lighting, signal, communication and power circuits and equipment. Isolating defects in wiring, switches, motors and other electrical equipment, using suitable testing instruments. Examining and testing elements of electrical systems to locate obvious faults, such as blown fuses, short circuits, broken wires, loose connections, and worn motor brushes. Replacing faulty switches, sockets, plugs, fuses, insulators, and other simple elements of electrical systems fixtures and appliances. Renewing circuits either by isolating and cutting out defective wiring and replacing it with new wiring or by splicing ends of broken wires. Assist in troubleshooting, repairing, and/or replacing component parts (e.g., wiring, conduit, controls, devices, circuit breakers, ballasts, etc.) of various electrical systems, electrical equipment and electrical tools. Assist in the installation and/or modification of electrical systems (e.g., building infrastructure, exterior, motor/control, clock, security, fire alarm, energy management, etc.) for the purpose of providing updated, enhanced and/or upgraded electrical capabilities. Preparing written documentation to record and/or convey information. Reporting daily to the Electrical Shop Supervisor on specific projects or problems. Use NextGen ticketing system for work orders. Performing all other work-related duties as assigned. Qualifications Enrolled in the pursuit of Electrical Licensing/formal training or will be enrolled within 6 months from date of hire. Participation in formal training is a condition of employment. Failure to enroll within this timeframe will result in termination of employment. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Valid driver license. Must be able to pass a favorable national agency check (NAC).
