Job Description

Perform the necessary general and routine maintenance on electrical, communication and control systems throughout the facility at the Iowa State Penitentiary. Performs skilled electrical work in the installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, fixtures, and related equipment; performs related work as required E-Verify and Right to Work The State of Iowa participates in E-Verify, a federal program that helps employers confirm the employment eligibility of all newly hired employees. Within the required timeframe, new hires will be verified through the E-Verify system to ensure authorization to work in the United States. The State of Iowa also complies with the federal Right to Work laws, which protect employees' rights to work without being required to join a labor organization. Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification: Three years of full-time work experience in skilled electrical work in the construction or repair of residential or commercial buildings. Successful completion of a standard electrician program at an accredited trade school. A total of three years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where one semester of an approved trade school electrician program is equivalent to six months of full-time experience. Successful completion of three years of an approved electrician apprenticeship program. Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes two years of full-time work as a Trades Helper which involved electrical duties. Within a timeframe determined by the appointing authority, persons in this class may be required to obtain a license to perform electrical work in accordance with Iowa Code Chapter 103. Designated positions in this class require possession of a valid Commercial Learner's Permit upon hire. Within a timeframe determined by the appointing authority, a valid Commercial Driver's License with the required endorsements and applicable restrictions must be obtained and subsequently maintained to continue employment.
