GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
To supervise and work in conjunction with electricians engaged in the installation, inspection, maintenance and repair of wires, conduits, apparatus, fixtures, and other electrical appliances used for light, heat or power purposes; to lay out the working details of the more complex installation and repair operations and actively participate in the performance of such work; and to do related work as required. The position is initially located at the Warwick campus. The days ad hours are usually Monday through Friday, 7am-3pm, but the days, hours, and campus may vary depending on the needs of the department.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of a superior who makes assignments in outline form and may review completed work for operating proficiency and objectives desired; usually works without technical supervision as to methods and procedures employed and technical results obtained.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Directly supervises the work of electricians, makes specific assignments, and gives technical advice and assistance when necessary.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
To supervise and work in conjunction with electricians engaged in installing, inspecting and repairing electric wires and cables, including those carrying high voltage. To supervise the maintenance and minor repair of various types of electrical equipment, such as refrigerators, stoves, fans, and dairy, laundry, cannery and cafeteria equipment. To analyze and interpret complex blueprints and wiring diagrams and supply electricians with construction, installation and other details not ordinarily furnished. To participate in the more complex installation and repair work. To supervise and actively participate in the installation, maintenance and repair of communication, signal and lighting systems. To submit written requests for supplies and equipment, including the determination of kind, size, quantity and quality. To do related work as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND CAPACITIES
A thorough knowledge of electrical maintenance, installation and repair work; a thorough knowledge of appropriate safety methods; a thorough knowledge of the legal requirements governing the performance of electrical work; the ability to analyze and interpret complex blueprints and wiring diagrams; a skill in the use of the tools of the trade; the ability to supervise electricians and lay out complex work assignments; a working knowledge of the construction of electrical apparatus and equipment; the ability to make emergency repairs to live wires, cables and equipment; the ability to make written reports; and related capacities and abilities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education:
Such as may have been gained through: completion of ten school grades; and
Experience:
Such as may have been gained through: employment as an electrician engaged in work involving the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical wiring, equipment and motors common to industrial installations. Or, any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
At time of appointment, must possess a journeyman electrician's license issued by the Rhode Island State Board of Examiners of Electricians and must maintain such license as a condition of employment.
