Elementary Animal Garden Caretaker Franklin Discovery Academy- Vineyard - 3.5 Vineyard, UT Job Details Part-time $14.85 an hour 1 day ago Benefits Employee discount Qualifications Childcare Outdoor work Pet grooming Animal handling Cleaning Full Job Description Animal Garden Caretaker We have a Discovery Garden inside our school. The garden has multiple animals for the children to interact with.
Responsibilities:
Basic Animal Care:
Animals in the garden eat a variety of things including bugs (superworms, hornworms, mealworms, dubia roaches and cockroaches), fruits, vegetables, dry food, hay, some leftovers from the cafeteria, and dead rodents. Some animals need to eat daily, some every other day and a few only eat once a week Important note, some animals in the garden will get really sick if you feed them the wrong things so training will be provided on how to properly feed each animal Enclosure care: Animal excrement will need to be cleaned daily. Some animals produce a lot and others you will simply need to spot clean. Substrate, hay, newspaper and other various enclosure liners will need to be changed on a regular schedule from every week to once every few months Certain enclosures are humid environments and some are strictly desert environments. You will be required to keep them in these climate conditions. Important note, water will need to be changed and filled every working day. Some animals will get sick from dirty water, some will die from not having water for a day.
Grooming:
Some animals need to be bathed or groomed in one way or another. A schedule and training will be given to you for these instances. Various grooming include helping with shed in some instances, brushing, trimming nails, etc. Plants and other non animal life: Any plants in the garden will need to be maintained to grow and survive.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The following are necessary to perform the essential functions of this position. Ability to supervise children, with primary concern for their health and safety while they are in the garden. Ability to effectively interact and appropriately communicate with K-8 grade students Ability to work everyday Monday-Friday during the assigned shift to ensure the safety and welfare of the students

Ability to pass a background check Evidence of success in prior work environments The physical ability to perform the core job functions described above

Starting at $14.85/hour
Position Type:
Part-time Everyday, Monday through Friday, 9:00 am - 2:30 pm Saturday or Sunday - About 30 minutes of general animal care and feeding only
