Job Summary:
The School Counselor provides a comprehensive school counseling program that supports the academic, social-emotional, and career development of all students. This position works collaboratively with staff, families, and community resources to ensure students are supported in achieving success in school and beyond. Essential Duties and Responsibilities (All Counselors): 1. Develop and implement a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with district and state standards. 2. Provide individual and small group counseling to support student needs. 3. Deliver classroom guidance lessons focused on social-emotional learning, academic skills, and career awareness. 4. Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to address student needs. 5. Monitor student progress related to academics, attendance, and behavior. 6. Assist in the development and implementation of intervention plans. 7. Respond to student crises and provide appropriate support or referrals. 8. Maintain accurate and confidential student records in compliance with FERPA. 9. Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and concerns. 10. Coordinate with outside agencies and community resources when appropriate. 11. Participate in MTSS/RTI, 504, and IEP meetings as needed. 12. Promote a positive and inclusive school climate. 13. Support student transitions between grade levels or buildings. 14. Advocate for student needs and equitable access to opportunities. 15. Participate in professional development and maintain licensure requirements. 16. Assist with attendance interventions and support plans. 17. Provide staff consultation on student social-emotional and behavioral concerns. 18. Help implement school-wide SEL or PBIS initiatives. 19. Maintain counseling program data and evaluate effectiveness. 20. Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal.•Elementary School Counselor•
Additional Responsibilities:
1. Deliver regular classroom guidance lessons focused on foundational social-emotional skills. 2. Teach topics such as friendship skills, emotional regulation, problem-solving, and conflict resolution. 3. Provide short-term individual and small group counseling for common childhood concerns. 4. Support students with transitions into school (e.g., kindergarten readiness) and between grade levels. 5. Collaborate closely with teachers to support classroom behavior and SEL development. 6. Assist in identifying early signs of learning, behavioral, or emotional concerns. 7. Work with families to support student development and connect to resources. 8. Support PBIS implementation and reinforce positive behavior expectations. 9. Participate in child study teams and early intervention planning. 10. Help coordinate programs that promote kindness, inclusion, and character education.
