SUMMARY:
Under limited supervision, leads and coordinates a comprehensive counseling program as prescribed by the American School Counseling Association (ASCA).
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Implements individual and small group counseling, crisis counseling, peer facilitation, and provides referrals as necessary to outside agencies. Delivers counseling curriculum school-wide using the "Character Counts" program. Assists in facilitating the positive behavior intervention and support program (PBIS) and kindness programs. Coordinates student activities that assist students in planning, monitoring, and managing their learning and meeting competencies in the areas of social, academic, and career/college readiness. Meets with students to go over their Personal Plan for Progress (PPP); provides insight to help students reach their set long-term and short-term goals. Facilitates groups striving to hold student accountable for their grades, attendance, and overall academic success through the use of PPPs, test scores, reports cards, and other student data. Participates in Individual Education Plan (IEP) teams and administers Student Study Teams (SST) and Section 504. Provides an orientation to new students throughout the year. Assists grade level teams with student placement. Provides program information to all stakeholders including parent and community members. Assists principal with counseling tasks/behavioral referrals related to student discipline issues. Assists with parental involvement programs. Initiates home visits, as appropriate. Coordinates administration of formal and informal individual and group student assessments, as needed. Assists in data disaggregation and interprets test results for parents and staff. Maintains necessary departmental and student records, which may include, but not limited to, class schedules, standardized test scores, report cards transcripts, parent contacts. Completes other duties as assigned or required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Masters of Education Degree in School Counseling; AND three (3) years of successful teaching experience or two (2) years as a school guidance counselor; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Required Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of effective project management, leadership, supervision, and training. Methods of conflict resolution and peer mediation. Student academic motivation strategies. District, School Board, and Department policies and procedures.
Required Skills in:
Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with coworkers and other individuals in contact during the course of work; communicating clearly and concisely. Operating a personal computer utilizing standard software such as Microsoft Office and some specialized software; functioning standard office equipment. Developing and implementing individualized academic achievement plans. Practicing methods involved in providing quality customer service.
